ALL THIS IS ON

AS A STUDENT

YOU

PERSONALLY

BECOME THE PERSON OTHERS WILL WANT TO FOLLOW AND ADMIRE TO BE THEIR ROLE MODEL

PROCEED TO THE

PRESENT

READY FOR IT

How interested am I in this? How much time do I need to spend

learning this? What competes for my attention ? Are the circumstances right for

success? What can I control, and what is

outside my control? Can I change these conditions for

success? What affects my dedication to

learning this ? Do I have a plan ? Does my plan

consider my past experience and learnig style?

Do I need help to undestand this? Who is willing to help me master

this?

BE PROACTIVE:being proactive is one of the keys to unlocking the habits. You should be able to control and take responsibility of your own life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness and don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND: If you are among those teens who aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals and what they stand for, you will wonder, waste time and be to and fro by opinions of others. You should create your own mission personally either through writing it down or speaking it verbally everyday which will act as a road map and direct and guide your decision making process

Page 5: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST: putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and be strong during difficult times. It is living life to what matters most .This habit helps you to priotize and manage your time so that you focus on and complete the most important things in your life

THINK THE WIN-WIN THINKING: this habit encourages the idea that in any given discusion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually benefitialsolution. You should learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in every relationship to be able to celebrate the accomplishments others have done other than being threatened by them.

Page 6: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND ,THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD: many people don’t listen very well ,one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure that you learn the most important communication skill there which is active listening.

SYNERGIZE: you should know that it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. This is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. It allows you to value differences and better appreciate others.

SHARPEN THE SAW: you should never get too busy to take time to renew yourself. When “you sharpen your saw”, your keeping your personal self sharp so that you can better deal with life .Thus regularly renewing and strengthning the four key dimensions of life –body ,brain heart and soul

Henry Brooks Adams an American journalist once quoted that “They know enough who know how to learn”

To many students who have always struggled like me have always faced a challenge in how they can fix all the paper work they have around their tables into their brains but all this has always resulted due to the way we have claimed to be learning

Page 9: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Your path for most effective learning is through knowing

Yourself

Your capacity to learn

The process you have successfully used in the past

Your interest in, and knowledge of the subject you wish to learn.

All learning ,however is a process which settles into certain steps .

I have gone through such tiresome ,challenging route of learning as a student like you which has always kept my pace to maximise my success(grades) to shoot the mark 100%

Page 10: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

WHAT WAS YOUR

EXPERIENCE ABOUT

HOW TO LEARN . DID

YOU?

BEGIN WITH THE PAST

Like to read? Solve problems? Memorise? Recite? Interpret? Speak to groups?

Know how to summarise?

Ask questions about what you studied? review?

Have access to summarise?

Have access to information from a variety of sources?

Like quite or study groups?

Need several brief study sessions or longer one?

Page 11: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

WHAT ARE YOUR

STUDY HABITS

HOW DO YOU LOVE TO DO IT

How did they evolve?

Which one worked best?

Which one was the worst?

How did you communicate what you learned best

Through a written test ,a term paper, or a discusion with a friend.

C0NSIDER THE

PROCESS

THE SUBJECT

MATTER

I NEED THIS

What is the heading or tittle? What are key words that jump out? Do I understand them ? Do I know about this already? Do I know related subjects to this? What kind of resources and information

will help me? Will I rely on one source(forexample a

textbook) for information? Will I need to look for additional resources

? As I study do I ask myself that I

understand this ? Should I go more quickly or more slowly ? If don’t understand, do I ask why? Do I stop to summarize ? Do I stop and ask whether it is logical ? Do I stop and evaluate (agree/disagree)

Page 13: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

CONSIDER THE

PROCESS

THE SUBJECT

MATTER

I NEED THIS

Do I just need time to think it over and return later ?

Do I need to discuss it with other “learners” in order to process the information?

Do I need to find an authority such as a teacher ,a libralian, or a subject matter expert

Page 14: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

BUILD IN REVIEW

I ALWAYS READ IT TWICE

What did I do right ?

What could I do better ?

Did my plan coincide with how to work with my strenghs and weakness?

Did I choose the right conditions ?

Did I follow through? Was I disciplined to my self ?

Did I succeed with my plan and goals?

Have I reached the success I wanted within that period I set?

What I have always remembered as a student in all my schools I have been is my effort to arouse the love, enthusiasm and beneficial attention of all my teachers to my work outside and inside the class.

I respect the priority of a student who always strives hard to stay in good conduct with the teachers and the school administration.

It is through improving your classroom communication skills that one is able to create a genuine and confortable environment for unlimited success and chances to shoot the mark 100%

Page 16: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Good communication skills affect how well you do in the classroom , with your teachers , and in your studies .

Teachers will evaluate you on your participation and demonstrated interest in and accomplishent with the course work.

Impressing teachers simply a matter of asking good questions and responding with good answers . Being and “interested” student will determine how you influence your teachers

Page 17: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT AND ALWAYS SHOW INTEREST IN WHAT THEY WANT AND REMAIN CURIOUS ARE YOU IF THEY ARE

Don’t criticise ,condemn or complain to the teacher about his or her perfomance rather focus on and discuss, the material and your understanding of it.

Let the teacher know what you appreciate about the course.

Be pleasant . A smile goes along way. Know and use the teachers name . Listen to what the teacher has to say about him or

her self Talk in terms of what the teacher is interested in Let the teacher know that you think he or she is

very important

Page 19: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Avoid arguing

If you are wrong ,admit quickly and emphatically

Ask questions rather than give orders

Try honestly to see the teacher’s point of view

Let the teacher know that you sincerely want to do well in the course

Always ask the subject textbook in your hand whenever you see the teacher

Hand in all assignments on time throughout the term or semester for university students

Page 20: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

DO WE NEED TO COMPLAIN ,PROVOKE ,TELL OUR TEACHERS OF HOW BAD THEY ARE AND DRAW INTO A FIGHT LIKE THESE FELLOWS OR

THERE IS ANOTHER WAY

Page 21: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Complain about it

Tell him how he gives abnormal assignments

Inform him how busy you were with other work

BEST COMMUNICATION

Complaints should be a last resort for an assignment . First understand where problems are in the discusion. The difficulties or complaints come in later

Page 22: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Your lessons and attendance in class is a requirement , and not your choice .Privately your teacher wants to know what you think about it . What do you say

Tell your teacher that the lesson is useless

Avoid him or her and walk away

BEST COMMUNICATION

Here you first explain your situation leaving open his or her explanation on what benefit you can achieve. Let him know why you signed up . Explain your programme ,and ask how the content will fit into it.

Remember he or she is looking for your opinion ,and your situation will help her understand not only you, but others

Page 23: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

How do you respond ?

Establish eye contact and say “hi”

Ignore him or her and say to your friends that the teacher likes you

Give your teacher an awkward facial expression

BEST COMMUNICATION

A simple “hi” is all that is required. Basic friendliness is also part of the educational experience . Be glad that your teacher recognises you among all the other students.

Page 24: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

In class, your teacher starts talking about his or her carreer . What do you do?

Ask what this has to do with the lesson

Listen ,and try to understand how this relates to the lesson

BEST COMMUNICATION

A teachers background qualifies her or him to teach a subject

If the teacher speaks about his or her relation to the subject he or she is validating why they are even in your classroom. He or she is trying to make a close relation with the class

Page 25: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Your teacher invites you to talk to you about your course work or lesson after class. You are busy then. What do you do

Explain why you are busy ,and say you would rather not .

Explain why you are busy ,and arrange a convenient time

BEST COMMUNICATION

Notice the teacher is expressing interest in you

If there are problems , even that you do not see, this is the first step to resolving them

You did well by first explaining that you have an appointment or assignment ,and being open to setting up a good time for both of you.

Page 26: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Your teacher just helped you out with some homework or assignment problems that you were having trouble with. What do you do?

Express appreciation and ask for suggestions for the future

Pretend that you really knew what you where doing all along

Try not to let him or her know you are having trouble

BEST COMMUNICATION

Well done that you thanked the teacher for help

Better yet to ask for recommendations on the future

This demonstrate that you both appreciate the help, and you are interested in succeeding

Page 27: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

In class your teacher just said something that you don’t agree with. What do you do ?

Argue with him or her After class , mention

that you didn’t agree with the statement , but ask for more information

Tell your friends that the teacher was wrong

BEST COMMUNICATION

Saving your objection for after class demonstrates that you respect the teacher , and you are not out to lower him down

A private conversation is always a good first strategy to resolve differences and avoid confrontation , even with friends

Never publicize arguments without first understanding the opposing view

Page 28: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

In class you just started an argument then realise that you are wrong . What do you do?

Admit it, and explain where you misunderstood

Admit it and tell the teacher or your fellow student that it was his or her fault not to explain

BEST COMMUNICATION

We have all been here . We start arguing to discover that we either agree with the other person , and or find that out that we are wrong .

In class we are present to learn thus it is better to be careful about arguing such that it is kept general not personalised

Page 29: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

Your daily assignments are too much for you to do. What do you do?

Have good excuses when you turn then in late

When you realise the problem , make an appointment with the leader to explain your situation and find a solution

BEST COMMUNICATION

Demonstrating interest is often a case of trusting someone to help. As soon as you realise a problem seek help

PREPARING FOR A CLASS IS LIKE THIS BIRD PREPARING FOR FLIGHT ARE YOU READY TO FLY?

Page 32: YOU CAN SHOOT THE MARK 1000% IN SCHOOLYou can shoot the mark 100%

While auditing my life at school, I found out that there are some basics I lacked whenever I could enter class in the morning and after sometime , I categorised my preparations into two categories for effective preparation for classes that is before class and in class.

But before we go further I want you to put this in mind these three basic principles I have followed that

---If you do not go after what you want you will never have it at all

---If you do not ask the answer will always be know

---If you do not step foward you will always remain in the same place
