Camera angles

After this there’s a medium close up of the family in the car, this is used to help set the scene that it’s just an ordinary road trip playing car games. The audience will be able to relate to this because it’s an everyday occurrence.

To start the trailer off there’s an establishing shot which allows the audience to know where the scene is happening. You can see here that we’re in America because of the iconic yellow taxis. Also there’s a traffic jam, the audience will decode this and realise that something has happened.

When the action starts to happen, there’s and ariel shot of the city when it is clear that something bad has happened because of the smoke coming from something on the ground (the lorry that crashed). This angle enhances the danger that the people are in.

Theres a close up on an object of significance. The red connotes danger and horror as it’s a stereotypical colour. The flare is also used to represent that they are in trouble, its used as a source of light to guide them to an exit.

A close up is also used on the protagonists face. I shows the struggle and raw emotion that he’s facing and the desperate need of escaping the zombies.

Camera workAfter the lorry crashes, there’s a hand held camera traveling backwards that looks as though its a persons view point look back to see if anything is coming after them. The use of this makes the audience feel as though they're in the scene, which I think works effectively, they’ll manic along side the actors.Theres also an arc ariel shot which

establishes the manic of the city, not just the people. You can see the car are piled and out of place, people are running away from their transport. It also suggests that this shot is taken from a government helicopter looking down and assessing the area. This creates tension with the audience because the helicopters are only used when citizens are in severe danger.

A tilt is also used when the zombies are coming to attack the people. It shows the vast amount of zombies that are coming to get them and also the power of them. In the first picture you can see the bus stable with the zombies climbing over, in the second the bus has virtually fallen, the zombies stop at nothing when something in their way. This indicates to the audience that the army are going to have a tough job fighting them off.

A zoom in and zoom out has been used in different view points. As the protagonist sees the zombies, the camera zooms in to see his facial reaction. As this happens, the camera reverses to a medium shot of the zombies and then zooms out as the realisation of whats about to happen hits the protagonists. Also in terms of levels, the zombies are seen at the top of the slope which suggests that at this point in time the bad guys are winning as they are more powerful; they audience will feel scared for whats about to come.

SoundTo start the trailer off, theres car horns beeping which immediately suggests that something is wrong. Then helicopter propellers start and sirens from the emergency forces which adds to the idea that something bad has happened because these are iconic noises in those scenarios. When the lorry crashes theres a numb sound as the diegetic noise is muted, when something sudden happens some senses collapse and this mute of the sound around the characters creates this effect for the audience. As the extra information appears, like the production company, the beats are broken down as the texts appear. This makes the audience waiting for the next part of the trailer and on edge as the beats could represent heart beats.Throughout the trailer there are moments of silence where no music is playing and then suddenly the music starts up again, this again helps create tension for the audience because they never no when to expect the action to suddenly appear or the music.Following this, the trailer has pieces of dialogue from the film which helps reveal the idea of the plot. This follows conventions because without this, the audience wouldn’t understand what the film really is about and they wouldn’t know if they’d want to see it.

Mise en sceneThe scene starts off with the weather raining, this suggests that the day is going to go badly because the weather isn’t; pathetic fallacy. With the characters clothes, they're wearing everyday outfits that are realistic which implies to the audience that they are just like them. As well, the police officers and navy people are wearing their traditional uniform which portrays that something serious is happening because they’re taking action. As the family make theres escape, they use a camper van which adds irony to the scene. Traditionally camper vans are used when families go on holiday, they're using it as transport to escape the mayhem. In terms of lightening, the trailer has been filmed in both day and night time to show the progression of the zombie apocalypse. It isn’t happening just at night time like stereotypical horror movies are, the day is dangerous too.The light of the flare is used for light in a dark place when the family are trying to escape the zombies. The red of the flare helps add to the horror factor because red is a typically colour of horror.Lastly, the difference of colour in scenes shows that everyone is equal. At the beginning the scene is in a city with grey built up buildings when the zombies start attacking. Throughout the trailer, the scenes changes and it’s set in a foreign country which looks like a desert and a poorer country. But in both these scene the army are protecting them from the zombies which tells us that everyone is in trouble and is worth saving and that the zombies are taking over.

Editing

Throughout the trailer, extracts of texts appear which follows conventions of a trailer because they are iconic features and let the audience know there name of the film, when its released in cinema and the companies behind the making of it which the audience will be able to know if they're good because they're professional.

The trailer also involves digital features such as play backs of new reports and maps. These tells the audience that this film is in the modern day and that it could actually happen to us now. The digital technology also suggests that they are trying to find a solution other than just physically, they're trying to think tactically about this because they know that the zombies can’t.
