WHAT IS DISTRIBUTION
DISTRIBUTION IS SELLING YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT TO COMPANIES, ALLOWING THE FILM TO BE PLAYED AT CINEMAS OR BEING DIRECTLY DISTRIBUTED VIA DVD.
DISTRIBUTION IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF A MOVIE’S PROCESS BECAUSE IT ALLOWS THE FINAL PRODUCT, THE FILM, TO REACH ITS INTENDED AUDIENCES GLOBALLY OR LOCALLY. DISTRIBUTION IS NOT USUALLY CARRIED OUT BY THE PRODUCTION TEAM
(UNLESS THE MOVIE HAS A LOW BUDGET), BUT A PROFESSIONAL DISTRIBUTION COMPANY SUCH AS 20TH CENTURY FOX OR LIONSGATE. A FILM DISTRIBUTION
COMPANY WOULD CREATE A MARKETING STRATEGY FOR THE FILM; SUCH AS USING CERTAIN ADVERTISING TECHNIQUES TO REACH THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF THE FILM,
HOW TO SEND COPIES TO THE CINEMA OR WHEN TO RELEASE THE FILM TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS MADE BY THE FILM.
WHY WOULD ANY DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES WANT TO DISTRIBUTE OUR FILM?
I THINK THAT DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES WILL BE INTERESTED IN OUR FILM AS IT HAS BEEN MADE TO APPEAL
TO AN AUDIENCE OF LATE-TEENS TO YOUNG ADULTS, OF WHOM RESEARCH SHOWS THIS AGE GROUP FREQUENTS
CINEMA’S THE MOST. FOR EXAMPLE, DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES SUCH AS SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT RELEASED
THE FILM SERIES ‘TWILIGHT’ WHICH WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL FOR THE COMPANY AS IT APPEALED TO THE SAME AGE OF
TARGET AUDIENCE AS OUR FILM ‘THE ULTIMATUM’.
