CAMERA

For the filming of our opening, we used a Pentax DSLR K-500. It was my first time using a DSLR camera for filming and as a result I was keen to experiment. This is reflected in our opening with the variety of different focuses and shot types. We used the focus to add mystery to our character by obscuring him until later in the opening.

Another benefit of using the DSLR was the high, 1080p quality that we were able to film with. This meant that the key features like costume that were specifically chosen, were much clearer to the audience and represented the gangster genre that much more.

MICROPHONE

We used a variety of different microphones in the production of our opening. The Røde microphone, we used for dialogue in our opening. It attached directly to the camera and allowed us to capture much better quality audio and made the dialogue clearer. This was a vast improvement on the built-in microphone found on the camera that we used initially, which picked up a large amount of wind.

The Blue microphone was used for the voiceover. This was recorded indoors where there was no background noise. The microphone was much higher quality and was able to give us a clear voiceover.

EQUIPMENT

A tripod was the only other piece of

equipment that we used. This helped us to

keep the camera completely still during

filming, but also made moving the camera

during shots much easier. We were able to

pan the camera smoothly, without it moving

in any other direction, keeping the opening

looking professional.

The tripod was also very compact when

folded away, meaning it was easy to carry

between locations.
