They learnt How to communicate and work cooperatively with someone they didnt know The fun of contributing to open discussions Where the electronic library was and that it contains image databases That I am there to help them as a subject specialist librarian That all is not always what it seems in an image That people can hold equally valid but opposing ideas That opinions should be backed up That there are at least an A4 pages worth of potential questions you could ask of an image (see my hand-out) 21. I learnt that Visual literacy (as defined by ACRL ) provides an excellent framework for me to organise and present a wide range of information about images relevant to art and design students Interactive and hands on teaching sessions engage studentsthey are fun and encourage the idea that the librarian/teacher is an approachable person. If you offer Google images as a source students will just search for what they know already I changed the option from Google Images to Google Cultural Institute after the first session 22. Some of the images the students found and talked about Images are under copyrightthey were shown as a lecture (by means of the instruction Copyright exception) but not cleared for use in Slideshare 23.
