• Data collected through online surveys and verified through a series of focus groups and interviews.

• Since fall 2003, over 1.2 million K-12 students, teachers, administrators and parents representing over 14,000 schools in all 50 states.

• Data represents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder input on education, technology, 21st century skills and schools of the future

• This year 60% of parents and 73% of teachers rate good technology skills as important

• 74% of high school students consistently identify good tech skills as the #1 skill they need to be successful in the 21st century.

• Only 23% of those students feel that their school is doing a good job preparing them for future jobs.

Survey Conclusions….

• Since 2004, students’ discontent with school rules that limit their access to technology at school has grown by 46%

• School rules keep them from using tools they use everyday

• The other major obstacle today is the teacher – over 40% of students think so!

The subject descriptors given to Web 2.0 based information which can also be used to search out items of interest

Web feed/News feed • Feeds are most commonly used with web sites that are

frequently updated, like blogs and news sites. • By creating a ‘feed’, the author can easily syndicate his or

her content in a format that others can access by subscribing to the feed.

• When the author changes the content on the site, it’s automatically updated on the desktop or web page of every single person who subscribes to that feed.

AGGREGATORS

What is an Aggregator?

•The aggregator holds a list of web sites and resources that offer RSS feeds. When it’s opened the aggregator retrieves the information from each RSS feed page listed.

•Once subscribed to a feed, an aggregator is able to check for new content at user-determined intervals and retrieve the update.

• Most often, articles are listed in reverse chronological order.

• Blogging is the posting of journal-like pages to a website. These pages can contain photos or media - mainly focus on written thoughts posted to a website.

• Typically, a blog "post" can be "commented" on by others, allowing for discussion on the topic.

• Act as online storage spaces for photos, with the ability to tag and organize each photo, as well as publishing anyone the user selects.

• Some photo sharing web sites offer the ability to edit photos online, make notes, post photos to a blog and a variety of other features.

website

• It was one of the earliest Web 2.0 applications – launched in 2004

• In addition to being a popular Web site for users to share personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers as a

• Its popularity has been fueled by its organization tools, which allow photos to be

tagged and browsed.

• It claims to host more than 2 billion images.
