What is Archetypal Criticism?Archetypal Criticism is a
critical theory which interpret text by focusing on recurring myths and archetypes in the narratives designs, images, symbols, themes, pattern of action and character types in literary works.
‘The Golden Bough’ by George Frazer is an anthropological origin of archetypal criticism.
What is Archetype?
Archetypes were first suggested by Carl Jung, he applied this term to ‘primordial images’ of repeated patterns of experience in ancient ancestors which survives in our ‘collective unconsciousness’.
A Skeleton (original model) of Literature is similar but bodies are different. We have same raw material but we cook it in different way.
Pattern of thought, image etc..that is universally present in individual psyche like story of Romeo and Juliet being a raw material for many literature and movies.
