Passion (2012)
The trailer for the movie passion reveals quite a lot
without knowing the exact storyline, you can get from it
that the story will be centred around the two females ( the
blond and brunette haired ladies) that appear most in the
trailer. We can also get from it that the two women are
professionals corporate ladies who are romantically
involved as well as the blond woman being in a
relationship with the man in the trailer. The use of the low
key lighting the tense clock music in the background and
the fast takes that all suggest a transition in the mood and
state of the characters from light hearted to dark help us
to realise the genre of this movie as an romantic thriller in
the trailer.
The blond character seems to be a bit of an hedonist she is seen to be a person who seeks pleasure in whatever she does.
She also seems unhinged from reality with some sort of psychological problem.
By the appearance of the blond and the brunette they are presented as binary opposites.
The brunette character keeps us interested In what happens to her. She seems innocent and new to her lifestyle.
The characters leave us at the end of the trailer feeling engaged and motivated to watch the movie because of the strong relationship presented between the characters.

50 shades of grey (2014)
From the trailer of the movie 50 shades of grey we can get
that the story centres around the love story of the
brunette character and the man. The women seems to be
a quiet, naive individual who is unfamiliar with the rich
lifestyle of the man but is willing to adapt for him. But
their romantic relationship probably wont follow the
typical conventions of an romantic drama as half way
through the trailer we see a change in mood in the trailer
as the short takes start to get longer focusing on the
change in their romance. The music changes and becomes
slow to establish the beginning of their relationship in the
trailer also the lighting changes and becomes low key as
the change in their relationship becomes more apparent.
The female character carries most of the
audiences sympathy because she seems so
innocent and timid.
On the other hand the male character seems
to be very uptight individual but at the same
time very flirtatious.
Addicted (2014)
Fast pace editing; the use of fast paced
editing makes an effective teaser trailer as it
highlights to the audience the point of
struggle. It also keeps the audience excited
and builds tension due to the speed.
Use Of transitions; In most cases, a normal
straight cut is used. But in film genres such
as horror and some dramas, dips to black or
white makes the trailer more effective as it
creates a dark or suspicious atmosphere
which may be intended.
Sound: Sound plays a crucial role in the creation of an effective trailer because it determines the mood created from the film and works simultaneously with the editing. An effective teaser trailer uses non diegetic music to create the awareness of the films genre due to the certain type of music is expected by the audience. For example, a fast paced, upbeat piece of music is expected in a comedy or romcom because it creates a warm feel and highlights the happy themed genre. An effective teaser trailer also uses sound to engage the audience. For example, drama or horror trailer will include a crescendo or fast and loud piece as it builds tension and creates excitement for the audience while working with the editing. in the beginning of the trailer addicted the music starts off slow and as the passion increases the fast paced music that follows reflects that.
Obsessed (2009)
Title & Text; An effective trailer states the day the film will be released in order to prepare the audience. In order to create a hype around the film, a trailer will also highlight some of the successful films made by the film conglomerate and the key stars featured in the movie. An effective trailer uses text to emphasize the struggle and engage the audience by either asking questions which will be answered in the film, or using catchy lines which will be memorable. Text could also be used to narrate the storyline with short sentences or phrases. The color of the text adds to the mood created and highlights the genre of the film because of the colors connotations. For example, red, yellow and other warm colors are predominantly present in romance movies as it symbolizes love and passion.
An effective film trailer will engage the
audience from beginning to end providing
excitement and puzzles to be solved. The
trailer should never reveal the final stage of
the narrative (the reinstatement of the
initial equilibrium) in order to encourage the
audience to watch the film.
This romantic drama uses binary opposites to create enigma using the rich girl poor boy scenario.
The trailer touches on class boundaries as a possible disruption
The notebook also uses the childhood sweetheart cliché that romantic drama audiences love.
Although there is no direct excitement within the trailer, excitement builds around curiousityof the outcome.
The trailer comes across as quite boring due to its slow pace and longer cuts however this is what the audience of this genre like and expect.
