Iran Hostage Crisis

· Iran’s government was overthrown and replaced with a religious leader

o Ayatollah Khomeini

· Iran took 52 Americans hostage after US allows Iran’s exiled leader to enter our country

· Carter refused to release the Shah, but tried to negotiate with Iran

· It took over one year to get the hostages released

· Many schools in the South had still not integrated

· Neighborhoods were segregated so blacks and whites

still did not attend the same school
