Narrations are used to give background information on what has once happened or what could be happening during present. It can also show characters, this is a way of giving the audience some sense out of the film.

Flashback/Flash-forward

A way of showing the audience previous key events which have happened/A way of showing the audience events which haven’t happened yet which play in a part of the plot, creating suspense.

Action Scene

A opening to the film which intrigues the audience with the amount of action that there is going on, which can also be a good way of showing the genre.

The film opening can always have a great influence on representing genre. The film “Halloween” (1978) uses the colours black and orange with a carved pumpkin and the main title. It also shows to the audience the sinister edge of the film.
