The Human Skeletal System (Axial Skeleton)Terry A. Dillman
Analyze the Learners
High school level Anatomy class. Pre-requisite is basic physical science class with a
grade C or higher. Class size is 24 students comprised of 18 females and
6 males. One of the females has Limb-girdle muscular
dystrophy (she is able to stand unassisted but does use forearm crutches to aid in her mobility.)
Main Objective
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the axial portion of the skeletal system with <85% accuracy in 4, two hour class sessions. This will be achieved by verbal instruction using power points and hands on experience with human skeletal models, similar vertebrate models (such as chimpanzees, canines, felines, and bats) for comparison, and their own bodies.
Day by Day Breakdown
Monday- Discuss the function of the skeletal system and all of it’s abilities and go over the different sections. Skull, ossicles, hyoid, rib cage, sternum, and vertebral column
Tuesday- Begin the instruction on the individual bones comprised of the skull.
Wednesday- Ossicles, rib cage, and sternum. Thursday- Vertebral column including the sacrum and
coccyx
