Analysis
The themes of the documentary
are crime, murder, religion vsdevil worship, youth, media
influence, Marylyn Manson,
good vs evil and how binary
opposites create conflict.
The Devil Made Me Do It is a
mixed documentary as it contains a combination of
interviews, observation,
narration, re-enactment,
archive footage and actual
footage.
The main purpose of the
documentary is to document the event of the murder of
Sister Maria and to follow the
court case regarding the
murder. It also focuses on how
Marylyn Manson and his music
influenced the murder. It was
visually entertaining to keep the
audiences attention and
informed the audience about
the crime, aftermath and investigation into the murder
and media influence.
The narrative structure of the devil made me do it is single stranded as it focuses on the main topic of the murder and how it was influenced my music/media.
It also expands on Marylyn Manson's style and also devil worship in relation to the murder case.
The structure is linear in the aspects of the murder trial as it follows the event chronologically.
The conclusion is left open for interpretation as all the questions are answered but it is kept un bias.
