Ancient City of Carthage

The ancient site of Carthage was located on the edge of North Africa that is now Tunisia, on the Eastern side of Lake Tunis.

Carthage  was founded as a Phoenician Colony about 800 BC. It was once the center of the Phoenicians' vast trade empire. Carthage was later conquered and destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC.

Topography:Carthage had inlets to the sea to the north and South, which made it master of the Mediterranean's maritime trade. All ships crossing the sea had to pass between Sicily and Carthage, affording it great power and influence.

The City Plan:

The city had a huge Necropolis, religious  area, market  places, council house, towers, and a theatre, and was divided into four equally-sized residential areas with the same  layout.Residences

Carthage was a city of glittering palaces and luxury houses lived in by the rich merchant classes.

Their town houses rose six-storey high along narrow streets. Each house was built around a central courtyard & had its own cistern along with a rudimentary drainage system.

Their private estates in the countryside were large houses and gardens backing on to extensive plantations that benefited from the complex irrigation systems. Herds of cattle and flocks of sheep pastured on the surrounding plains.

Ancient city of Baoshan Stone City, Yunnan

Baoshan Stone City, Yunnan

In addition to Dayan Ancient City, there is another old city in Yunnan Province, Baoshan Stone City, located by Jinsha River Canyon, about 120 kilometers north of Lijiang. Because it was built on a huge mushroom-shaped rock, the city is called “stone city.”Baoshan Stone City is the original habitat of the Naxi Ethnic Group. Naxi people migrated here during the Northern and Southern dynasties (420AD-589AD) and built the city during 1277-1294 in Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Their own language, houses and architecture have been well preserved in the city, reflecting the true life of the Naxi people. One side of the city is a stone slope going straight to the Jinsha River, and its other sides are steep cliffs. With only two stone gates in the north and south for access, the whole city forms a natural strategic pass. Houses were built

according to the terrain of the rock, and all the cultivable hillsides around the city have been turned into terraced fields. Now over 100 Naxi families are still living in the city. They are very friendly to tourists and always greet the visitors with genuine smiles.

6. AMPHIBIOUS Town

6.1 Problem & solution

The problem faced by the people and the city is the rise of the sea level causing land has been covered by sea. To face this problem, as a mayor I have decided to build a town with combination above the land and sea. But the underwater is only built with underwater track for public transportation so the transportation will hide underwater don’t appear above the water. You can only see the walkway , cycling path and building above the water. The reason why am I decided that is because I want give back the road for people to walk not the cars.

Reason as a mayor I didn’t go for full town with above the sea is because it will takes a lot and costly material and work to built it. Other than that it is good for sea fisheries in my town.

The people living at my town can enjoy the sea view ,observe the nature and the behavior of animal live in the sea and also on the land with large open space.

6.2 important characteristic and element of town of Amphibious & z oning

One of the thing about city of Amphibious besides living on land, it also built and connect to second part above the sea ,therefore the name of Amphibious mean able to live on both land and water.

The second part town, above the sea will have a large recreational area for

the people. Since the sea is next to the town so make use of the sea。

Housing :

The residential area is separated into high wealth , middle wealth ,low wealth and special residential. High wealth is Semi-D house, middle wealth is terrace house, low wealth is condominium, special residential are for orphans and old folks .

GREEN ROOFS - Roofs covered in stonecrop or sedum plants are not just an attractive detail. The plants also absorb rain water that would otherwise drain into the sewers.

Facilities:

The facilities includes a schoold , government working area, offices, schools and university . Hospital , Fire Fighter and Police station are also available around the residential area

Energy : Solar Panels – There are solar panels on some of the roofs to absorb the heat from the sun and use it to heat hot water. The solar panels can provide sufficient energy to meet half of the building’s annual hot water requirement.

Solar Cells on wall – the light energy of the sun is harnessed and transformed into electrical energy in solar cells. The energy from a single solar cell module covering ine square metre provides around 100kWh/year, which is equivalent to the household energy used for three square metres of housing.

Biogas- Is the perfect fuel to run generator, create electricity to built up the light , fan, air-conditioner.

Waste management :

Vacuum system for the solid waste and refuse - The heaviest and bulkiest waste fractions are sorted and collected via an underground waste collection system. The waste is sucked through pipes into a central room, one fraction at a time. The container are collected from the room so the heavily-loaded garbage truck will not lumbered down the street, reducing vehicle jam.

Biogas digester - Can turn any waste into fuel such like human waste ,animal dung and urine. So waste=fuel. There are many uses of fuel, to run generator ,create electricity to built up light air-conditioner and fan, to run cars and gas stove ,organic fertilizer . Biogas is the perfect fuel for cooking, cars, fertilizer and electric.

Water management :

Grey water recycling system – Grey water collect form baths, hand basin, washing machine which is then filter ,disinfects ,recycle and be reuse for general cleaning , watering garden , flushing toilet.

Benefit

Offices, warehouses, school, hospital, shopping centre and hotels equipped with Grey

Water Recycling System can reduce environment impact, less main water consumption and up to 50% saving on bill.

Rainwater Harvesting System-

All the building in my town will be equipped with rainwater harvesting tanks in the backyard or underground to collect rainwater from roofs and be reuse.

Instead of using water that is good enough to drink we can reuse the rainwater to flush the toilet, wash the car, water the garden, and for general cleaning.

Benefit

Tapping rainwater not only reduces your monthly water bills but also lessens the demand and dependency on the public water supply and, ultimately, the need to expand water supply infrastructure. Equally important is that holding back rainwater will reduce land erosion and flooding caused by rapid runoffs whenever it pours

Transportation :

The main transport of the town is public transport which is electric bus and ferry. Walking and cycling is the second option. Electric car is also others options of transport.

Extensive and well-developed bike lane networkLow cost and easy access make this transportation option a very popular choice

Electric car – Help reduce emissions and enery consumption and curb climate change.

lithium titanate batteries electric bus -Lithium titanate batteries don’t expand and contract during recharging, so they’re very resilient and can hold up to frequent partial recharges. After only a ten minute rapid charge, the bus will be able to operate for three solid hours. Do not need the driver out of the car for charging, because everything is done through an automated system connection.

BenefitReduce energy consumption, air pollution, climate impact and noise.

people will sit ferry to the second part town above sea electric ferry – the electric motors with silent, low-emissions cruising and a unique rapid recharging systemPassengers won’t have to wait for the ferry to charge. A rapid charging system takes just 10 minutes to give the ship’s 180 kilowatt-hour nickel metal hydride batteries enough juice to run for one hour at 9 knots. Benefitthe conversion will cut 130 tons of CO2 emissions and 1.5 tons of NOx emissions while cutting operating costs 30 percent

6.3 conclusionThis new town of amphibious will not just solved the problem where people has lost their land due to the rise in sea level, it is still provides loads of facilities and infrastructures for the citizen. It is a green town create to save mother Earth from being harm.

7. Conclusion

Through all the researches about the citi , town ,township above . I have learn that a good town planner always place the people’s healthy and the Earth’s healthy first. Our earth is sick , pollution is a major problem. Most cities around the world have already taking action of reducing the carbon footprint such like using bicycle as their transportation and also trail , tram, bus ,ferry which go with electric system. To success the future city we need a very long time .it is not imposible to complete a healthy and sustainable city for people but what it need is time to change and improve.
