The Engineering Design Process
Identify the problem
We have to build barbells for the MEH PE. The barbells are not like normal barbells that have large weights on the ends. We have to build a barbell that is one weighed pole with no weights on the ends.
Criteria and Constraints
• Must be sturdy• Must be safe• Try to reduce as
much cost as possible• Try to use recycled
materials• PVC pipe and other
materials were donated.
Possible solutions/ideasWe were originally going to have a PVC pipe connecting two milk jugs. However this didn’t work, as an interview with the P.E. teacher revealed that we couldn’t do that. So we…

• The barbells might come in handy in P.E. • They can be used differently. You can twirl these
around, for instance.• They also have nice, comfortable grips.• They are pretty sturdy, so they will not break if
