The downside of the typewriter isn't that it doesn't allow for on the fly editing, but rather that it isn't exactly easy to service them nowadays.  There is something about the schreib machine that is so pure; it exists to put down your words in a fashion that anyone can read.  Frankly, the typewriter is one of the greatest inventions of mankind.
