Summer Program StaffGirl Scouts take safety seriously. In an effort to assure you of your daughter’s safety and well-being, we want to take a moment to explain how we hire and choose our paid seasonal staff.

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland hires adult seasonal staff to fill specific job responsibilities (camp directors, waterfront, program activities, unit counselors, etc.) for the delivery of summer program. Only adults ages 18 or older are responsible for the supervision ofparticipants. All seasonal staff must complete a written application with three character/skill references. All references are checked, a personal interview with the site director is conducted and the applicant undergoes a Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and Department of Motor Vehicles background check. In addition, supervisors regularly monitor the performance of seasonal staff members.

Safety and Sites

Note: Since Starwoods Outdoor Center is an

American Camping Association accredited

site, a range of skills are verified during the

40 hours of onsite training to ensure that

seasonal staff can provide quality program

delivery and a safe environment for each

child placed under their care and supervision.

The patterns for costumes are available for checkout from Karen by calling (316) 522-8973. For more information, contact Mary Wilson at [email protected]. Girls who find it difficult to make their own costume may rent a full costume from those available in inventory on a first-reserved, first-served basis. There is an additional $22 fee when renting a costume. Girls must provide their own long black socks and ankle-high black shoes. Complete the costume rental form found in the back of this guide. Attach a check to the costume rental form and send it to the Wichita Girl Scout Center or pay online. Adults volunteering as unit staff or teens volunteering as Museum Aides or Museum Leaders-in-Training (LIT) may also request the use of a full costume at no charge. All participants must be in period costumes approved by the Girl Scout costume coordinator.
