The Slow Food approach to agriculture, food production and
gastronomy is based on a quality concept defined by three
interconnected principles: Good, clean and fair:
Good: A fresh and flavoursome, seasonal and local diet that
satisfies our senses and is part of our local culture.
Clean: Food production and consumption that does not harm
the environment, animal welfare or our health.

Fair: Accessible prices for consumers, and fair conditions and
pay for small-scale producers.
These are the ideas central to the Slow Food Movement, which
was founded in 1986 by Carlo Petrini in Bra in the Piedmont
region of Northern Italy, as a response to the “fast life” and fast
food, and to the decline in local food tradition, a decline in
interest in the food we eat, in its origin, in its taste, and in how
our food choices influence the world around us.
Today, Slow Food International, which is a non-profit
association, has more than 100,000 members in its 1,500
convivia around the world. In addition, it has a network of 2,000
food communities making small-scale and sustainable
production of quality foods.

Our convivium, Slow Food Grand-Duché, was started at the
beginning of 2013 with our official launch at the Sofitel
Kirchberg on 23rd
October 2013. We are 10 Slow Food
enthusiasts of various nationalities in the committee, thus truly
reflecting the diversity of the Luxembourgish society.
Since our launch, we have made a variety of activities, e.g.:
Visit to an apple orchard
A lecture on food waste
Visit to a bakery
Workshops in schools (seasonal foods, biodiversity,
seasonal lunchboxes, etc.)
Visit to a brewery
Had a stand at the Marché in Luxembourg city presenting
walnut oil and explaining about food waste
Visit to a wine cave
A dinner around sake
Visit to a fishmonger
