What Are They For?

Bones are used for movement, support, and protecting the organs in your body. They store minerals and produce red and white blood

cells.

System InteractionsCirculatory System-the bone marrow

produces red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, which are part of the

circulatory system.Muscular System-this system is made of

muscles that are attached to your bones by tendons to help you move, and to give you more structure. Your skeletal muscles are the voluntary muscles attached to bones.

Immune System-Bones produce white blood cells, which are the main part of the

immune system. They are used to fight off things that don’t belong in the body.

Parts Of The System

JointsJoints are the part of the system in which bones meet each other. They are essential for movement.

The bones in joints are usually connected by ligaments. There are around 230 moveable and

partially moveable joints in your body, as well as some

immoveable joints.

Bone MarrowBone marrow is found in every hollow bone. There are two types

of marrow-red and yellow. The red bone marrow produces

platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. Some white

blood cells are formed in yellow bone marrow, along with fat,

cartilage, and bone cells.

BonesBones are made of two types of tissues; compact bone tissue and

spongy bone tissue. The four kinds of bones are long bones,

short bones, flat bones, and irregular bones. Bones are used to protect organs in the body,

and to give structure to the body.

How Are They Made?

When you are a baby, some of your bones weren’t all

bone, but also part cartilage. With the help of

calcium, that cartilage turns into bone as you

grow.

How Did Bones Evolve?

Early soft bodied animals had cartilage. Just like how bones are

formed out of cartilage in our bodies, the same thing happened to them. The cartilage eventually turned into bone, and now they

have bones.
