Should You Upgrade Your Home Security System to Include Video?
In this day and age, having a home security system is a common home option. You just never know who is
out there, casing your home and waiting for you to leave it so they can break in and help themselves to
your belongings. Any time your house is left obviously unattended is a good opportunity for thieves to risk
breaking in. Since most savvy thieves watch a house for a while to get an idea of who comes and goes and
when, leaving a car in the driveway or a light on outside the house won't make them take for granted that
someone is home.
There are also the aggressive thieves who just break in
without planning because they think you have some
valuable things inside; they sometimes end up breaking
into houses when the occupants are still in it. This can lead
to some very bad and dangerous situations. The good news
is that these scenarios can be avoided much of the time
with a good home security system in place.
The typical home security system is an alarm that goes off if someone enters the home by force, or enters
it without using a special code to turn off the alarm within a certain period of time. The activation of the
alarm will alert the neighbors that something is going on, and will send an automatic call to the alarm
company, which will, in turn, call the police to go out to the house. Many robberies are prevented by an
alarm-based home security system, and they are the most popular type of home security system on the
market.
The alarm security system is excellent for use when you're not home. It will keep your house protected
from burglars. However, it doesn't do much if someone (or more than one person) breaks in while you're
still there. By the time the alarm goes off, the robbers will already be inside with you and your family. This
is one reason many homeowners are upgrading their home security systems to include video.
How can video assist you with home security? The most important function of the home security video is
allowing you to see who is outside your home. Some robberies are accomplished by thieves knocking at

your door, then pushing their way through and into the house when you open
the door. A video camera will allow you to see who is at your door before answering it. You can then
choose to answer the door or ask any unknown person what they want before deciding to open the door.
A video security system will also allow you to see if any suspicious people are wandering around outside
your house. Did you hear a noise outside? Is your dog barking and you don't know why? If you have video
on your security system, you can look at the video monitor and see if you have any potential intruders. You
will then have the opportunity to call the police on anyone outside your home who looks suspicious.
If you're concerned about break-ins while you and your family are still home, you should definitely
upgrade to a home security system with video. Video has helped prevent more than one robbery where
the occupants of the house were home. These types of robberies typically go very badly for the people in
the house, so preventing them is a key part of protecting yourself and your loved ones. For more
