It is the failure of plant with normal pollens and ovules to set seeds due to some physiological hindrance due to which fertilization may not occur..
Reasons....
Three Reasons;.Pollen grains may not germinate on stigma,,If germination occur on stigma ,pollen tube may be large,,Pollen tube goes slow to the egg or not go...
2) Gametophytic Self-Incompatibility (GSI)This type of self incompatibility is controlled by genetic constitution of gametes. Pollen grains are
unable to germinate on stigma with similar allele as that of pollen
Mostly occur in nature . It occurs nearly in potatoes, TomatoesCabbageClovers
GAMETOPHYTIC(GSI)
Stigma is smooth and wet outcome of the interaction between the pollen tube and the style is determined by
the genotype of the pollen (gamete)
S-locus products are synthesized after completion of meiosis
growth of the pollen tube arrests in the style
SPOROPHYTIC(SSI)
Stigma is papilate (hairy) and dry outcome of the interaction between the pollen tube and the style is determined by
the genotype of the sporophyte (diploid tissue)
S-locus products are synthesized before completion of meiosis
growth of the pollen tube arrests at the surface of the stigma
Elimination of SIBy doubling the chromosomes of the species as S1 doubled S1S1 S1S2 S1S1S2S2
Identification of self compatible mutant plants from a population of plants developed by same seeds’’’Incorporation of self compatible genes of relative species or varieties of same species by back cross
method’’’
Transfer of mature pollen on immature stigma for 2 to 3 days then we get compatible plants,,
2) End of season:High Temperature ; At 60 ° c expose female part
Co2 concentration:
near the flower increases it
Salt spray:
Nacl = 5 to 10 solution e.g in cabbage, brasica
High humidity: In brasica ,cabbage increase it
