Where Did Rugby Start?

Rugby originated in 1823 at English boy's schools

when a young student named William Webb Ellis at

Rugby School, picked the ball and ran with it

toward the goal. During the late 1700 and early

1800s, a more civilised kind of mob football was a

familiar pastime at English boy's schools. However,

such games had loose rules, but it was in fact

understood that running with the ball was right.

William Webb Ellis?

Reverend William Webb Ellis is said to have invented Rugby football. He was an Anglican clergyman in the 1800s and attended Rugby school. Reference
