Rihanna Digipack - Loud

The album cover has a theme of the colour red as seen in Rihanna’s hair and lips. Rihanna is known for always changing her hair and this colour became very popular even setting a trend linking in with my conventions of pop videos. Her star image revolved around this and it has been shown through her whole album with the theme red.

The colour red is also typically a very sexy. Seductive colour.

The red is used to draw attention to the audience making the CD popular. The picture is very tightly framed in the close up image showing of the artist. Her eyes are also closed making the plump red lips the main focus of this picture. The close image shows of Rihanna’s beauty and sex appeal linking straight to her target audience. Red is linked with danger,

love, sex and power all things Rihanna has shown in her music videos throughout her carrier.

Although the text is very simple it still stands out. The white against the red and Rihanna's skin tone make it visible to the audience however the main focus of the front of the album is the star.

The white text links with the idea of purity and love going both against the sexiness of the cover and linking with the theme of love running throughout the pack.

The lighter pink dress is a lot more girly and innocent than the seductive red colours on the front of the album.

The roses connote the theme of love, passion and heartbreak something that runs through the digipack and its songs.

Her lay down body shows some sort of sex appeal attracting male audiences however she is not in overly sexy clothing or revealing anything therefore she is still appealing to her female audience by not looking threatening.

The whole album has a narrative based theme throughout. On the front cover the artists facial expressions show worry. The theme throughout is love/lust and gives of the impression of trouble in a relationship. This also links in with the themes of all Rihanna’s songs on the CD.

This image in the digipack shows a lot of emotion, its bold and busy background contrast with the soft look of the artist showing her to look more vulnerable than the front cover.

Throughout the pack Rihanna is pictured with her eyes closed this is atypical to a album cover as usually the artist want to make some sort of connection to its audience through the eyes.

The CD itself is designed to look like a pale pink rose. The rose again connotes the theme of love/passion.

The pale pink colour matches the colour of Rihanna’s dress in the previous picture linking the album together through colour themes.

The CD says the artists name and album name in white and pink linking with the theme of the front.

The pink rose links in with the idea of beauty and delicacy create a sense of love/passion.

Throughout the digipack feminine colours are used such as pinks and reds targeting its female audience.

This particular picture shows of a softer side to Rihanna as normally she is seen to be edgy and tough. The theme of love/passion continues through her songs in the album as they are almost all to do with this theme. For example ‘California king bed’ is a very slow soft song and show Rihanna to be vulnerable in the music video linking in what the whole theme of the album.

The rose itself isn’t clear and crisp it looks soft and delicate with water droplets on. This could represent a rose first thing in the morning once again linking with the soft side Rihanna is trying to portray.

The back of the album ties the whole album together using softer colours with a faded look over the whole thing and the darker tones seen on the front of the album down the side and the text.

The back of the album shows what record label Rihanna is signed to ‘Def Jam’ and other information like producers. This information follows the colour themes of the album in dark pink and white.

Bar code is on the back of the album. This is normally seen on the front or back of the album.

Although Rihanna's eyes are open on this picture she once again isn’t making eye contact with the audience showing innocence, vulnerability or a hidden secret all of which intrigue the audience.

The white dress connotes innocent however this contrast with the artists bright red messy hair hair.

The pure white sheets in the background contrast against Rihanna’s skin tone giving the album a subtle sex appeal.

This image contrast in every way to the front cover. It is a medium/long shot and the pale tones and dullness compare against the sharp fierce front cover.
