Who would the audience be for
your media product?
Age

Audi
ence
The audience that we have decided to appeal to
and feel our magazine appeals to is young, from
the ages of 16-35 as this audience is most up-to-date with gossip as well as being in touch with the
internet, which is where we will be putting some stories and exclusive content for our magazine.
Gender of Our
AudienceFor our audience, we will be appeal to
both genders as it will create a wider
readership and more revenue for our
magazine. However, with a female on
the front cover of our magazine, we will
be aiming it more at a young, female
audience that are into fashion, music
and their own life. The use of a female
on the cover may also spark support
from a male audience, as they may find
her to be an attractive artist in the
industry, conforming to Laura Mulvey’s
male gaze theory who sexualize women
to gain a male audience.
Socio-Economic
BackgroundOur audience will be in a good position in
society, as they will come from a working
class-middle class background. Our genre
of music (hip-hop/R&B) is particularly
associated with this background, as many
of the artists have come from nothing to
the top. We want to inspire these people
not necessarily to become a rapper or
singer, but to be successful and we will do
this by promoting a positive image of our
chosen artists. They may be in full time
education or beginning to work in a full
time/part time job, which will allow our
audience to afford or have time to sit
down and read our magazine. They will
also be able to afford a computer or
smartphone, enabling our audience to
view further content from our magazine
on the Internet.
The Brands They Will Like
My audience will by into the top brands, and will keep up
to date on the latest styles by using shops found in
shopping malls across the UK. Brands such as Adidas and
Topshop/man will be worn due to the style that they
promote. Food brands will include fast food due to the
possible support they get from their parents, including
McDonalds and Subway. They will however also be
conscious of their health and will use supermarkets like
Tesco to ensure they have food. They may also use
technology as that is one of the main focuses in my
magazine. These include smartphones from Apple as
well as games consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One. These
will entertain our audience, who may want to listen to
hip-hop in their headphones they got from HMV.
Wha
t will
they
do
on

is?
My chosen audience could be in full
time education including college and
university, where they may possibly
have a part time job or parents
funding them, allowing them to
purchase the magazine to read in
their spare time. They may also be in
full time work, where they will be
earning money to live on and will
choose to purchase our magazine as
a treat if they have a surplus of pay
for the month. They will however be
in a comfortable position in their
lives, where they can afford to
purchase the magazine and have the
ability to lead a life with some
possible luxuries from time-to-time.
What will they do in
their spare time?
In their spare time, my audience may
be at a concert or show for a hip-hop
artist, which will take place in an urban
area and be busy at night and the day
due to lots going on. They may be
meeting with friends, shopping for the
latest trends or playing games at
home while eating a pizza. The older
generation of my audience (18-36)
may well be going out into the city and
partying, as some hip-hop DJ’s play at
clubs across the country. My audience
will be doing different things
depending on their social background
and the availability of hobbies that are
there for them to participate for them.
Where will they live?
As my audience will be listening to
hip-hop/R&B music, they will
mostly be living in urban areas.
These areas may be cities or
towns, where large shopping malls
are available to them as well as
lots of activities for them to take
part in.
