How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Planning stage

Within the planning process we used many different types of technology. We were planning to arrange with the NSPCC however we couldn’t arrange a time with them. But we did manage to phone them and record a phone call answering some questions. The phone call was made on a iPhone 4S whilst the recording of the phone call was done on a HTC. We decided to record with a smartphone as at the time we did not know how to use a microphone used within documentary. We then used flash media centre to convert file into mp3 so that we could upload it to blog.


Planning stage

Another piece of technology used in our planning process was printers and scanners. We used this to print of information so that we could analyse it and make annotations. After this we needed evidence to show blog that we had made annotations so the only way we could do this is by using scanners. I considered other forms of technology to notes onto computer but scanners was the most efficient way of placing notes into a digital format.

Some software that I used was adobe PDF Reader. When notes were scanned the scans came out as PDF’s this wasn’t an appropriate format for www.blogger.com so we used computers to transfer files to JPEG as this was a format that Blogger accepted. I also used Microsoft word which then I transferred in to JPEG for my article analysis.

Planning stage

Other pieces of soft ware I used were Prezi and slideshare this was because I needed to show a use of various technologies and, by choosing a selection different formats it helps me gain better skills in producing better Prezi’s and shildshares. But also it helps the blog look better as if there it were all text then it could be hard to identify certain posts. Where as using different formats would help identify certain aspects of the blog.


Production Stage

One piece of hardware that we used was the apple Mac computers. It was the first time we used the computers but we need to use the specialised software that was on the macs. So after learning new skills we become better in using macs and learnt shortcuts to make use of time editing clips.

One piece of technology that was used a lot of was Final Cut Express for Mac computers we used this in creating the documentary. We chose to use final cut express over other formats such as windows movie makers as I had significant experience is using Final Cut Express. But Final Cut Express was more specialised in helping create movies as it had a range of effects, transitions and visual features. But movie maker only had basic effects and transitions.


Production Stage

One piece of software that we used was InDesign for Mac computers. We chose to use this software over competitors such as Microsoft publisher as we had already used InDesign when create our article last year so we were very experienced in using this software.

One piece of hardware that I used was my integral 4 gigabytes memory stick to transfer work from computer to computer. This was the best piece of technology as using email was time consuming and wasn’t format friendly wit apple computers. By using a memory stick to transfer notes from one computer to another with ease was a big advantage as it meant I could switch computers easily if I needed.


Production Stage

During the production process we used garage band on the Mac computer to create the radio trailer. We chose to use garage band as we had previous experience in using garage band. Also the only other software available for us to use was windows movie maker but this had basic effects and wasn’t specialist in creating music and soundtracks.

Some hardware that we used a lot through the production process were the camera, microphone, headphones and tri pod. We decided to use a tri pod as the camera angles would be flat as they had a water measure on it. We used the microphone and an external camera rather than a smart phones as it contained more megapixels meaning a better picture quality. We also used a separate microphone instead of smartphone as it provided sound sensitivity option which the iPhone 4S did not give which meant we could adjust the sounds according to the environment that we were in.


Evaluation Stage

One piece of technology I used in the evaluation process was Microsoft PowerPoint. I used this instead of Microsoft word as it could be easily transferred to other formats such as Prezi, Slideshare, and Scribed. This would make it easier for me as it would take less time for me to place documents on to other formats so that I could identify easily on the blogs so that it would be easier to edit if needed.


For the evaluation process I learnt to use windows 8 operating system. I have never used this technology before and shouldn’t have taken the risk but after learning how to use the software it become easier to control my PC
