The Function / Purpose Of Music Videos (going from left to right on the montage)

✤ 1st image - “PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC”. Promotion is very important, perhaps the most important feature of them all. Promotion of the band or artist leads to more public awareness. Most of the time, the purpose of the music video is to promote the artist as they are the ‘highlight’, the ‘main ingredient’ for a record label to make money.

✤ 2nd image - money. Obviously, record companies wouldn’t usually make music videos for “fun”, they’d produce them for a certain gain; money.

✤ 3rd image - Britney Spears in ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’. Another feature of a music video is to be memorable.

✤ 4th image - ‘Michael Jackson “Heal The World”. This was to evoke emotion in the audience. Some artists use this to get the audience to think about themselves and the others around them in the world.

✤ 5th image - Michael Jackson in the music video ‘Thriller’. This, again is a feature of memorability.

✤ 6th image - Macklemore’s ‘Same Love’ song cover. The track talks about the issue of gay and lesbian rights and was recorded during the campaign for Washington Referendum 74, which, upon approval in 2012, legalised same-sex marriage in Washington State. This feature is about creating a social message to the audience.

✤ 7th image - Black Eyed Peas ‘Where Is The Love?’. The music video for "Where Is the Love?" was shot in East Los Angeles and features the band and various other people, including various young children, asking the world where the love really is.

✤ 8th image - people having fun and enjoying the music. This photo represents the purpose to entertain the viewers of the music video. To be entertaining and therefore memorable.
