Selling Price is the price at which the

We note that:

a)If CP > SP, we have a loss

And, Loss = CP-SP

b) If SP>CP, we have a profit/gain

And, profit=SP-CP.

Q2 (b) If cost price of a doll is Rs 195 and

selling price is Rs 181.50, find the profit or

loss.

Solution: Cost price of the doll = Rs 195

Selling price of the doll = Rs 181.50

CP>SP => we have a loss

And, loss = CP-SP

= Rs 195-181.50

= Rs 13.50.

So, there is a loss of Rs 13.50.

Q2 (c) The cost price of a pen is Rs 19 and

the selling price is Rs 24. Is there a gain or

loss? How much?

Solution: Cost price of the pen = Rs 19

Selling price of the pen = Rs 24.

SP>CP => we have a profit

Selling price of the machine= Rs 12,075

CP>SP => we have a loss

Q1 (a) A vegetable seller bought potatoes for Rs

200. He spent Rs 20 on transport and then sold

them for Rs 290. Find the profit or loss.

Solution: Cost of potatoes = Rs 200

Money spent on transport = Rs 20

Total money spent by seller = Rs 200+20

= Rs 220

Selling price of potatoes = Rs 290

SP>CP => we have a profit

And, Profit = SP-CP

= Rs 290-220

=Rs 70

So, there is a profit of Rs 70.

Q2 (c) Ramlal purchased a plot for Rs 1,35,000. He constructed a

boundary wall around it which costed him Rs 25,500. If he sold the

plot for Rs 1,90,500, find the gain or loss.

Solution:

Cost of the plot = Rs1,35,000

Money spent on boundary = Rs25,500

Total money spent on plot = Rs1,35,000+25,500

=Rs 1,60,500

Selling price of plot =Rs 1,90,500

SP>CP => we have a gain

And gain=SP-CP

= Rs 1,90,500-1,60,500

=Rs 30,000

So, there is a gain of Rs 30,000.

Q2 (e) A property dealer purchased a house for Rs

1,50,000. he spent Rs 15,000 on repairing the house. After

six months, he sold the house for Rs 2,15,000. find the gain

Solution: Cost of the plot = Rs 1,50,000

Money spent on repair = Rs 15,000

Total money spent = Rs 1,50,000+ 15,000

= Rs 1,65,000

Selling price of the plot = Rs 2,15,000

SP> CP => there is a profit

And Profit = SP-CP

= Rs 2,15,000-1,65,000

= Rs 50,000

So, there is a profit of Rs 50,000 13 Richa Bhardwaj

Q2 (b) A watchmaker bought an old watch for Rs 420

and spent Rs 85 on its repair. Later he sold the watch

at a gain of Rs 60, find the selling price of the watch.
