Film Production

Diary.By Jack Francois

Diary entry 1 So far, our group has finished creating the

storyboard and we have now issued one another roles with in our group so each member can concentrate on a certain objective.

My role within the cast is the production manager. I sort out the different locations and props within the cast so that when we are ready to film, we know exactly what location we will you to shoot a certain scene and what prop to use in a certain scene.

Diary entry 2 Today we have been organizing the script of

our protagonist and antagonist as well as putting together the antagonists costume. We are nearly ready to film, all we need now is to pick our location and we should be ready to start filming.

The theme of our film is going to be old fashioned as our antagonist is going to be dressed in a stereotypical Victorian man back in the 1900’s

Diary entry 3 We have picked our location to film, it is in

Gravesend near the Alva house. We will be filming inside and around the area to create a horror vibe in our film. Furthermore, we will be filming at dusk to allow us to manipulate the lighting to our advantage as well as its geographical location.

We will be starting by the protagonist confronting the “horror house” and getting low angle and high angle shots of the house.

Diary entry 4 Today we have recorded the majority of our

film at the Alva house in Gravesend. We started working on the film from 11:00am to 7:00pm where we have finished the main base of our film. When I go back to school we will be editing the footage we have gathered and will edit the footage as quick and as best as possible. This because if we need to redo any scenes or take any more shots, we still have to do so.

Diary entry 5 I have arrived back at school now and have

started to edit the footage we have gathered over the Christmas holiday. The editing is early in its stages but we are all contributing towards the editing. I am currently trying to think of a title page to display at the end of the opening sequence. Furthermore, I have been trying to improve my blog and add more pieces to it, because I have recently been concentrating on getting the film done that I have fallen behind a bit on my blog.

Diary entry 6 I have started to edit the footage of our film

and we are trying to piece together the right scenes. There have been some conflicts on trying to decide which clips we should use and what we should not use. Furthermore, we have found the soundtrack we are using and I have tried to put it into our film.

Diary entry 7 We have now started using final cut pro to finalize are

film and create and edit any effects that our needed. We also are starting to edit the title screen and the credits for the opening sequence. We are still trying to decide a name for our film as we still have not got one for the opening sequence. We have had many debates and arguments over this and we have gotten no where.

I have resorted to the internet to find inspiration and I have come across films such as the shining and Scary movie and have observed the story behind the film and why they called what they are. Hopefully I will be able to come up with a solution for this problem.

Diary entry 8 The group and I have finally come to the

name “Bowler”. The reason we have called it bowler is because it stays on theme with the theme as the antagonist wears a hat throughout the theme. Now that we have a name for the film; we have started to add the credits to the film and are now finalizing the production of our opening sequence.

Diary entry 9 Today has been stressful, we have been

looking for hours for a soundtrack to be in the background of our opening sequence. Finally I came across the soundtrack and have now included this in the background of our opening sequence. Now that that has concluded, the film is nearly ready to be shown to the class as well as our teacher.

Next lesson I plan to do some more precise editing and fine cut any scenes that may not fit in the film.

Diary entry 10 Today, I have edited all the scenes down so it

is no longer a rough edit. I made sure that there is no mistakes or scenes that should not be there. However, the film has taken ages to finally complete. I had it observed by my teacher who gave me feedback on the film. Apparently there was a problem with the ordering of the film as it looked a bit confusing at the end. I do not know whether or not my group and I are going to have enough time to rearrange the scenes so they make sense.

Diary entry11 We still haven't been able to edit or rearrange the

ending of our opening scene. I fear we will not have enough time to rearrange and this will impact our marks a lot. I'm trying to organize a time when the group and I can come and rearrange it so the film makes a little more sense and therefor increase our marks we will get.

As soon as I get a time from our teacher I will go their with the group and make sure we watch it and look at the scenes and see what scenes need to go and what don’t. My role in the group within the group at this time is the team leader/organizer as well as editing.

Diary entry12 Finally we managed to get a room and edit the film

with my group and have now rearranged it so it makes more sense. I'm so glad the group and I managed to get the film rearranged. We have finally completed the opening sequence to our film. I felt, despite all the arguments and lack in communication, we managed to pull together and edit the film. When we started on something and we worked together we worked very efficiently, but when we don’t the group was hopeless. I now realized that if I had to replicate this film again I would defiantly choose a different group as I feel that due to the lack of communication and different opinions my grade for this subject may have suffered.
