CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK
• National Curriculum- Seven Curricular Areas:
- Core Curriculum (75%)
-Differentiated Curriculum – grades 9 -10(compulsory education) and grades 11-12(lyceum upper cycle)
- Curriculum at school decision

• Class size - depends on the educational level:• 15 20 25 … 30
• School year:• 35 to 37 weeks, divided into two semesters: September to
February, February to June• starting date: September 15th
• ending date: June 20th
• Holidays:•two weeks for Christmas
•Two weeks for Easter
•One week between the two semesters•National holidays
•Summer holiday ( 12 weeks )
Timetable:•50-minute classes / 10-minute breaks•Morning or afternoon classes
Grading system:•grades from 1 to 10•initial and final evaluations every year•continuous assessment•term evaluations in the subjects specific to the chosen profile
EXAMINATIONS
Initial testing at the beginning of the school year
Final testing at the end of the school year
National assesment in Romanian, Science and a
foreign language every 2 years ( end of grades
2,4,6 )
National exams at the end of lower secondary
school
Graduation exam ( Baccalaureate ) end of grade
12
LEGAL PROVISIONS
• The right to education is granted by the Constitution
• There is a National set of rules for all educational
institutions
• Each school can establish its own set of rules while
complying with the National ones
• Cheating and playing truant are severely punished
• There is now debate over an improved set of rules
which aims at the more active involvement of
parents and students in education
