Web is changing our ideas of social action

Online learningBouchard (2013) stated that learners can structure their learning in much more fluid, effective, and personalized ways than with any other previously known method (p. 308).

NEW DIMENSIONS TO SELF-DIRECTED LEARNINGSelf-directed learner using MOOC will not be able to call on trusted educators for support in their learning but rely on the aggregation of information and informal communication and collaboration available through social media to advance their learning (Kop & Fournier, 2010, p. 1).

BOUCHARD (N.D.) IS MAKING US AWARE THAT NOT ALL INFORMATION PRESENTED BY TECHNOLGOY IS VALID YET WE AS USERS NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THE NETWORK DOES CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING; HOWEVER, WE NEED TO ALWAYS BE FINDING NEW AND CREATIVE WAYS FOR SHARING INFORMATION ON THE NETWORK. WE NEED TO AVOID THE PITFALLS OF WHERE WE FIND OUR INFORMATION AND NOT ALLOW OURSELVES TO BECOME OVERLOADED WITH INFORMATION. WE ALL KNOW THAT WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A RESOURCEFUL SOURCE YET LOTS OF ONLINE USERS GO TO THIS WEBSITE FOR INFORMATION.

Learning by playingPrensky (2001) summarizes this emerging problem by stating todays students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach. They are used to process new information fast, are able to multitask and prefer to use hypertext media systems like the internet. Digital learning games account for these needs and habits (Wernbacher, Pfeiffer, Wagner & Hofstatter, n.d., p. 533).

Wenger (n.d) later provided a definition of communities of practice by pointing out that they are groups of people who do share a concern of a passion for something they do, during this process they learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

Modern Workplace leaning embraces all the ways we learn

Technology has made online learning the new global tsunamiGlobal economy has changed my view of adult education due to high tech communication which allows one to diffuse ideas more quickly and broadly. There are more telecommunications connections across borders. Bouchard stated that the new online environments compel us to redefine what it means to teach, to learn and how (p. 305).
