What can you tell about the film themes and issues from the poster?

The poster inspired a variety of ideasabout themes and issues for theviewer, such as: stalking, abduction, voyeurism, loneliness and isolation.Loneliness and isolation were themost popular, however there wasn’t aclear favorite and this is somethingthat I may need to work on – thiscould be achieved by enhancingcertain tones to create a definedmood and possibly add somesymbolism to create a clearer identityfor the film.

Does this poster look like something you would watch or avoid?

All participants would watch the filmafter looking at the poster, thedominant reason was that it intriguedthem and interested them due to thesecrecy of the poster – this shows thatthe poster has been successful inachieving what I set out to do whenplanning and creating the poster, which was to remain mysterious toinspire interest but also reveal enoughfor it seem appealing to the consumerand intrigue them to want to knowmore.

What audience do you think this poster is aimed at?

The poster was successful in aiming ata mature and media educatedaudience as participants haveexpressed that they believe that theage demographic for the productwould be ‘18 – 30’, they would be‘media educated and a higher intellectaudience’ and an ‘independent/nichefilm audience’ therefore the posteraesthetically and verbally appeals tothe intended audience.

What do you think about the use of Polaroid’s?

These responses reference theprotagonists character and identityand explain that they believe thePolaroid's are very symbolic towardshim as the Polaroid's create a dark, mysterious and artist mood and feel –therefore the use of Polaroid's workwell when representing the type offilm that this poster is advertising.

These responses express that theybelieve the Polaroid's are veryappealing and that they attract anolder audience as it is an interestingold-fashioned technique of camerawork – therefore working successfullyin attracting the intended audience aswell as providing appeal to the poster.

With the combination of the film title ‘In Your Eyes’ and the Polaroid’s, do you have an idea of what the

story might be about?

Overall there is no clear dominantidea from the participants, thereforethis is something I could improve onwith possibly the use of words orsymbolism as they have all got a roughidea and focus around the same topicbut definitely need some obviousdirection. I think in order to conquerthis a tag line would be very helpful tothe audience just to state exactly whatthe link is.

Which tag line do you think is the best for the poster and why?

When asking this question I providedparticipants with the review, which includesa synopsis, and then gave them sevendifferent variations of potential tag lines aswell as an ‘other’ option; the majority feltthe most appropriate tag line for the filmwas ‘the camera always lies’ due to ithaving a good beat and rhythm, I agreewith this choice and feel that it willenhance the posters themes and issues, clarity and mystery.

What does the colour palette of the poster suggest to you?

The participants use words such as:bleak, dim, dark, eerie, creepy, dangerous, emptiness and seriousnessto describe the colour palette of theposter, which I think are words thatwould definitely define the socialrealism ad thriller genres as they areinfamous for their low key lighting anddull colours. Finally, one participantdescribe it as creepy and eerie which isan aesthetic that I was aiming for thematch the intended style of the film.
