Possible Distributors
Orion Pictures Corporation/MGM
Orion distributed a very wide range of film titles between 1978 and 1999, from horror, comedy, drama and action genres. It generally accepted film productions that provided a good pitch, and held potential as successful films.Their distributions of successful horror films such as ‘Silence of the Lambs’, ‘The Return of the Living Dead’ and ‘Amityville II: The Possession’, makes them an ideal option as a distributor for our film ‘The Shadows That Guide Us’.However, in 1999 Orion Pictures Corporation was announced bankrupt, but was revived in 2013 by Metro Goldwyn Meyer (MGM), and in 2014 returned as a film distributer through MGM; still making Orion a contender to distribute our film, with a larger budget.
Maxim Media MarketingThis company is a world-wide leader in the distribution of independent, global films. It specialises in the genres of horror, indie, thriller, paranormal, sci-fi and reality/shock films, making it perfect for as a distributor for our film ‘The Shadows That Guide Us’.However, while the film is global, it is at its most successful in North America, making it perhaps detrimental to our ‘British’ production.Maxim Media Marketing works to distribute the film production in a very dominantly, vertically integrated, but broad manner; releasing films theatrically, through worldwide VOD, television, foreign sales, and home video, meaning its distribution is wide reaching, though its lack of horizontal platforms may limit its distribution abilities. Some examples of the horror films it has distributed are: The Afflicted, Dead Of the Nite, Ghost Bride and Scavenger Killers.
Picturehouse Entertainment
Picturehouse Entertainment is a relatively new distribution company that has brought a broad and diverse range of film genres to the public, typically films with unique or revolutionary aspect to set them apart from other films. The company as distributed films such as:• A Field in England• The Keeper of Lost Causes• 20,00 Days on Earth• Blue Ruin• The ConnectionThese films hold wide ranging differences in style and genre, however, the companies tendency to distribute unique films (like ‘A Field in England’), typically belonging to independent production companies, with vertical integration, makes Picturehouse Entertainment ideal to distribute our film – ‘The Shadows That Guide Us’.
Left Film SalesLeft Film Sales is a brand new, UK based distribution company, focusing on the distribution of exciting, genre busting, new film concepts to release internationally. Its status as a brand new company may make its efforts in distribution slow and somewhat amateur, however its specialist ability in the distribution of independent, UK based horror films makes it a viable candidate to distribute our film – ‘The Shadows That Guide Us’.Left Film Sales has distributed horror films such as:• Before Dawn• The Harsh Light of Day• Colin• 7th Hunt• Umbrage
OrionOverall, for our film (‘The Shadows That Guide Us’)
we would most likely select the distribution
company Orion (in synogy with MGM).Its talent in diverse,
unique film titles and its shown success in horror film releases like ‘Silence
of the Lambs’ (which shares similarities with our own production),
makes it the prime distributor for our film. Its synogy with MGM
also works in our favour, as Orion will have more
resources and funding to distribute our film on a
wider scale.
Picturehouse Entertainment
The second distribution company that could have
distributed our film in the best way, would have
been Picturehouse.This company distributes
film production with ‘genre busting’ qualities to set them apart from
other releases. Its unique and successful
distribution of the film: ‘A Field in England’, makes it the second best option as distributor after Orion, as
the company shows success in the release of films similar to our own.
Maxim Media MarketingMaxim Media Marketing,
known for aiding independent production
companies distribute their films, would have been our third choice. The company’s wide reach globally would
mean that our production was released on a large scale and seen
by an international audience in vertically
integrated forms. However its best success stories are based in and predominantly released
in, North America, limiting its ability as a distributor for our, UK
based production.
Left Film SalesThe small, amateur
company Left Film Sales, would have been our last choice for a production
company. Its extensive releases of independent, UK based,
horror productions, shows that the company is capable of distributing
horror films, and makes it a contender to distribute
our own film.However, its amateur
skills in distribution as a new company limits its ability, and means that the release of our film
would likely only reach a few, small, UK cinemas.
