How research
has informed
my planning
and creativity
Convention My initial ideas for my magazine Target? Yes/No
House style/Branding Red Banners, black and white writing – I found this is a common house style in vintage magazines
Masthead 1/6th of the page, Red. Font – Arial Bold – most magazines I have looked at, their masthead takes up around 1/6th of the page, the red will make it stand out against the black and white writing.
Photograph – main image Black and white – in suit possibly? Props – instruments (guitar) – All the vintage magazines i have looked at have a Black and White image of the vintage artist on their front cover.
Any other images In the top right corner (corner folded) in a banner (links to pug) – this to is a popular technique that ‘Q’ magazine uses and I like it, I think it would work really well on my magazine front cover.
Colours Red, Black and white. – these coloursare really vintage
Pugs Price code and date of issue, bar code bottom right/left
Puffs Yes, I need too research into what puffs I want on my magazine front cover
Font styles Arial Bold – this is also a popular font used by ‘Q’ magazine
Initial ideas
Convention My initial ideas for my magazine Target? Yes/No
Banners Red banners (Not semi-transparent) –I like the fact it blocks out the imagebehind the banner
Main feature/Cover Line About a specific singer/band and takes up the majority of the front cover – this is known on all the vintage magazines and most music magazines.
Strapline or sell line Underneath masthead so it stands out.
Buzz or tag words Always in red so it follows my house style.
Language – word signs/ semiotics. Iconic, symbolic, indexical signs
Yes this is something I need to research.
Representations Main image, most of the page, represents the importance of the artist and the black and white image represents the era of vintage.
