Pressure of MAKE UP and why its vital in todays society

Genre

Special interest Reality TV

Documentary

Duration 3 minutes

Idea Our short film lasting only 3 minutes will show the effects of make-up in society, why females feel the need to apply it and what role it plays in everyday life. Our closest programme we could compare it to is “Snog Marry, Avoid” as the BBC Three programme documents around 4/5 people an episode showing before and after footage of the individual.

Before the makeover the viewer’s get an insight into the person’s life pre-makeover, we see why they wear the amount of make-up they do. After the makeover we see how their lives have changed and if they stick to their bad ways or embraced the new look.

Format, style & techniques

The style we will be imitating would be factual programmes such as ITVs Dinner Date and Come Dine With Me. These programmes focus solely on the participants and the topic in hand, with no host and limited voice overs to guide the viewers on programme. All that is said and done are clarified by the participants.

The contributors will explain what is they are doing, e.g. the equipment their using to achieve make up goals, we will also ask questions put edit them out, so to the viewers it seems as though they are speaking directly to them. Answering all questions in heir head.

Target Audience

Mainly females who apply makeup from day to day. Those whose profession revolves around makeup. Ages from 16+, College students and adults.

Aim of the Video

Out aim is to widen peoples knowledge on our evolving society and that makeup is becoming an everyday norm. that “insecurity” is not the only reason anymore and that the makeup industry is growing every second, sweeping up everyone, from males to females- in its path

Research Our programme emphasises on the

pressures of make up and why its vital in todays society. However that doesn't inhibit us from researching about other programmes that have similar approaches or points as we plan to use.

1. RaPuals drag race

2.Face Off

The game show consists of a group of males dressed as women to complete a series of tasks which in all assembles a drag race. Although the show is a “reality competition” there are some focal points around makeup and how well a man is able to pass as a female

Face off is also a reality game show, one with a much different approach as its main genre are science fiction characters. The contestants impersonate a fictional character, the makeup may not be everyday or a “natural” look but it just shows the different methods/ ways people use makeup.

3.Snog Marry Avoid

The BBC show as mentioned earlier is our closest ally to our future documentary. Snog marry avoid is more of a entertainment purpose than what we are trying to achieve, though showing the before and after and whether or not people go back to their ways, we want to convey the participants story and show how much they give up just to fit.
