Parts of the Circulatory
System
Objective:
1. Identify/Describe the major parts of the circulatory system
The circulatory system is made
up of:
Blood
Heart
Blood vessels
The HEART is a pear-shaped muscular organ located in the chest cavity.
It is about the size of our fist and it is protected by a membrane called the PERICARDIUM.
The heart is a muscle. It’s in the middle of your chest.
It pumps blood day and night. It normally beats 60 to 100 times a minute.
When you run, your heart beats faster!
4 CHAMBERS OF THE HEART1.The right atrium receives oxygen-poor blood from the body and it pumps it to the right ventricle
2.The right ventricle pumps the oxygen-poor blood to the lungs
3.The left atrium receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle
4. The left ventricle pumps the oxygen-rich blood to the body
Blood is a red liquid that travels in the blood vessels.
Blood is made of:
PLASMA is the clear, straw colored liquid portion of blood.RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES or ERYTHROCYTES are manufactured in the bone marrow. They contain a red pigment called HEMOGLOBIN.WHITE BLOOD CORPUSCLES or LEUKOCYTES are colorless, disk-shaped cells which are smaller than red corpuscles.
Blood picks up oxygen and nutrients.
It drops off carbon dioxide and waste.
There are three kinds ofblood vessels in the human body.
1. ARTERIES are thick-walled and elastic blood vessels
2. VEINS have thinner walls
3. CAPILLARIES are the smallest blood vessels

PARTS OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
RIGHT ATRIUM
RIGHT VENTRICLEAORTA
LEFT VENTRICLE
LEFT ATRIUM
Evaluation:
Identify what is being describe.
1.The tubes trough which blood flows.2.The liquid part of the blood.3.The transport system of the body.4.The organ that pumps blood.5.The parts of the blood that surrounds and destroy disease germs.
Assignment:
Draw and label the parts of the circulatory system.
