What is a Business Letter?

Abusiness letteris usually aletterfrom onecompanyto another, or between such organizations and their customers, clients and other external parties. The overall style of letterdepends on the relationship between the parties concerned.

TYPES OF A BUSINESS LETTER

Block Format-Block formatis typically used forbusiness letters because its the simplest. Inblock format, the entire text is left aligned.

Modified Block Format-Modified blockletters are slightly different fromblock letters. The basic difference between them is that your address, date, complimentary close, sign., and the printed name are aligned on the right side.

Semi-block (Intended) Format-In this format, your address, date, complimentary close, sign., and name are aligned to the right side of the letter.

Explanation of parts of a business letter Letterhead: Aletterheadis the heading at the top of a letter. That heading usually consists of a name and an address, and a logo of the company. Date: This is obviously a date, when the letter was written.Inside Address: Name and address of the receiver of the letter.Salutation: This part is written to dedicate the letter to the receiver of the letter.Subject: Subject is a part where the sender has to describe his\her issue, complaint, or inquiry or the reason to write the letter.Body: Body is the main and the most descriptive part of the letter.Complimentary close: This part is for closing the main part, that is the body of the letter. For business letter, generally, a complimentary close is "Your sincerely "or "Your respectfully", or something like this.Signature: This part is where the sender leaves his signature.Enclosure List: Any additional information is inserted here.
