There are two important celebrations in Petrer: “Moors and Christians in May, to honour our patron saint Boniface.

Moors and Christians are in May. There are ten comparsas, five for representing Moors and five for Christians.

People wear special colourful costumes to re-enact the Arab period.Men who represent Moors usually have got a beard and a moustache. petrerenfiestas.com

They always use a lot of ornaments:harquebus, swords, furs, metallic helmets, armours, boots.

There are parades and processions in the streets around the Town Hall.This festivity commemorates the victory of Christian army over the Muslims one.The victory is offered to our Saint Patron: “San Bonifaci”.

There are fireworks and gunpowder everywhere during five days.

Comparsas have got bands of music playing just behind them.Musicians play their instruments during the parade.

There are also two styles of music: one for Christian band called “Pasadoble” and one for Muslim band called “Marchas moras”.
