____ ① Do not write cursive letters, e.g. like this. ____ ② All letters must touch the lower line. They must not float above the line. ____ ③ The ‘middle line’, between the top and bottom line, is actually around 55% above the bottom line. ____ ④ All of the small letters must touch the bottom and middle lines. ____ ⑤ All of the tall letters, except ‘t’, must touch the top line. ‘t’ stops between the middle and top lines. ____ ⑥ ‘t’ is crossed on the middle line. ____ ⑦ Letters with tails, q, y, p etc touch two middle lines. ____ ⑧ Do not split words between lines. ____ ⑨ You must have even spacing between words. ____ ⑩ Your handwriting must be neat and easy to read, always.
Layout Test Criteria (test date: Thursday, April 26, 2012)
____ ① Write your name in Roman letters in the top right-‐hand corner. Under that, write your student number. ____ ② The title of your report should be in the center of the page. The first letter of each word in the title should be
capitalized. Small words like a, the, and as are not capitalized unless they are the first or last words of the title.
____ ③ Skip one line under the title before you start writing. ____ ④ The first line (only) of a new paragraph should be indented about one centimeter. ____ ⑤ Write so that the bottoms of your letters touch the lines of the paper. Do not let your writing float above or sink below the lines. ____ ⑥ Double space your writing, so skip one line after every line your write. ____ ⑦ Do not start a new line after a period. Keep writing until you reach the end of the line, and then continue on the next line. ____ ⑧ Leave a margin of about two centimeters at the left of the pager. Use your eyes to judge this: do not draw a line down the page. ____ ⑨ The margin on the right of the page should be about the same as the margin on the left, but it is okay for
each line to be slightly different. ____ ⑩ Write the number of words at the bottom of the page.
