dEFinitionsCredit Transer : is the granting o exemption
or credit to students or units o competency

units must be equivalent to the units the student
is applying or and must have been completed
under the Australian Qualications Framework
(AQF).
Recognition o Prior Learning : is the
acknowledgement o skills and knowledge that
have been gained trough training, work, or lie
experiences into ormal competencies. The
assessment o RPL is carried out by collatingevidence against ormal competencies as
described in the relevant training package.
SELMAR Institute o Education oers Credit Transer and/or Recognition o Prior Learning (RPL) to all students
on enrolment and ensures that the process is structured to minimise time and cost to students. SELMAR
will provide inormation and support to help students gather the relevant evidence to support their claim or

crEdit transFErStudents who have achieved units through previous
training will be eligible or a credit transer toward units
in the SELMAR course that they are enrolling in, where
the units they have previously completed are deemed
equivalent to units in their SELMAR course and, the
students competency in the unit is considered current.
SELMAR will only consider credit or qualications/
units completed within the Australian Qualications
Framework. SELMAR does not oer credit or study
completed outside the Australian Qualications
Framework (non-Australian Qualications) as we do not
always have the capacity to determine the equivalence
o non-Australian Qualications.
Equivalence is determined by the mapping documents
in the relevant training packages and/or by a qualied
assessor making a judgement that the outcomes o
the units held are equivalent to those or which credit is
requested.
Currency is determined by ensuring the qualications/
units held by the student have been achieved in the last
3 years. I the qualication/unit is more than 3 years
old the student would need to demonstrate currency
through relevant work-experience and/or ongoing
proessional development.

has been deemed competent)
A certicate with the relevant recognised authority
logos
Certied results rom an institution
Statements o Attainment

demonstrate currency)
rEcognitionoF prior lEarningStudents who believe they already have the skills
and knowledge required by some or all o the units
in a qualication may seek to have their existingcompetency recognised through a ormal RPL process.
The RPL process involves the student gathering
evidence rom lie, work and study experience and
matching it against the specic outcomes o individual
units o competency. A SELMAR trainer/assessor will
be appointed to assist the student with this process.
Where a qualied assessor determines that the
evidence is sucient to demonstrate current
competency against the unit requirements the student
will be awarded the unit. In many cases this will mean
the student can complete all or part o a qualication
without needing to attend training although training
may be required where there are gaps in the students
knowledge/skills.
EvidEncE to support aclaim For rEcognition
oF prior lEarningThe student will need to provide evidence to
