WHAT IS AN OLE?• Enabling contexts-situation where learners
are oriented to a need or problem
• Resources – source materials to support learning
• Tools- (Seeking, collecting, organizing, integrating generating, manipulating, communication)
• Scaffolds – the process through learning efforts are supported in OLEs
ENABLING CONTEXTS• Externally Imposed – context specifies
specific problems and/or performance needs
• Externally Induced- Prompt generates problems to be solved and means to pursue solution
• Individually Generated- personal interests, issues, concerns, or problems that establish unique learning needs and guide strategies
RESOURCES• Static - resources that do not change
• Dynamic – resources that change, update, and evolve• Information systems, social media, education methods
TOOLS• Process Tools- enable and facilitate
cognitive processing tasks
• Manipulation Tools – used to test the validity of beliefs and theories
• Communication Tools- Support, initiate and sustain exchanges among learners, teachers, and experts
SCAFFOLDS• Conceptual- Guides learner in what to
consider when problem task is defined
• Metacognitive Scaffolding- guides learners in how to think during learning
• Procedural- guides learners how to utilize the available OLE features
• Strategic Scaffolding- guides learners in analyzing and approaching learning tasks or problems
BRING YOUR OWN TECHNOLOGY
BYOT• Bring your own technology is a policy
that allows employees or students to use their own personal electronic devices at work or school.
BYOT SECURITY• If the device connects to a corporate or
school network, an IT department needs to secure and manage the device.• IT consumerization- the impact consumer technology is having on enterprise IT departments
