OASIS - WONDERWALLAnalysis

• When the song starts, there is a shot of a vinyl record, as it is in black and

white, this tells the audience that the visual style will give a 60s look which is

common in indie/rock music videos.

• After the vinyl record shot, the sing is shown with the back turned playing

the guitar and the shot is a long shot. This shot also has an effect of a

movie projector which establishes the vintage look they are trying to do

and also the slowness and calmness of the song. After that, the song

escalates when the drums and viola are heard. This is a convention of the

rock genre as usually rock music first start of relaxed then get more upbeat.

• Throughout the music video, it is black and white. This gives the

audience a flat and old feeling. Special effects are also in the music video such as hand tinting. This attracts the audience more as it is

unusual and different and makes that certain thing stand out.

• The music video doesn’t use much reference between lyrics and

visuals. When the lyrics “and all the lights that lead the way are

blinding.” are heard, the music video shows a scene of the screen continuously blackening and whitening (positive and negative effect.)

• The scenes in the music video are edited which match the rhythm and

beat of the music.

• The music video shows many close up shots of the singer (Liam

Gallagher) and his band. By having close up shots, it allows the

audience to engage with the artist therefore whenever the singer is

saying the lyric and looks at the camera, it builds the relationship

between the singer and the fan.

• The video also uses voyeurism which refers to the notion of looking. A

shot of this is when the singer is holding a mirror and singing the lyrics through it.
