ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE CURRENT SCENARIO OF THE AVIATION INDUSTRYD unit 4 & 9

The biggest advantage is that its time saving . Passenger get more comfort than any other mode of transport. There is a whole industry based on aviation that utilizes some of the

latest technological advances in production and quality control. The aviation industry is also very governed industry so consumer

safety for most part is the highest for any industry in the world. Due to the emergence of the LCC , even common man can now

travel by air which was a rare scenario in the earlier days. The aviation industry is one of the fastest growing industry in the

world. The growth rate of domestic and international sector has been more

than 25% which is highest in he world.

Page 16: Niikks

As the jobs available in this industry are of high risk the salary paid to the crew is very high as compared to other industry.

The aviation industry is very big and vast so the scope of jobs is immense and varies from aircraft pilot, aircraft maintenance , aircraft crew, ground staff, ticketing, boarding staff etc.

Due to the emergence of the aviation industry travel has become easier .

As earlier it used to take weeks to cross the ocean but now its just a matter of hours.

As the trade across the world has increased due to the emergence of LCC , thus boosting the aviation industry.

Page 17: Niikks

DISADVANTAGES. Airline industry has their odd and long working hours.

E.G. As a recent article said the death of air purser Avinash mahatre due to the overtime working .

Due to hike in fuel prices and falling passengers load factors crew jobs are in danger.

E.G As the go air sacked at least seven employees. In a bid to meet rising costs most airlines have also

resorted to dubbing or eliminating terquencise on several routes.

Due to the emergence of private jets and more aircrafts the problem of air pollution has become an major issue.

Page 18: Niikks

As due to increase in no of private aircraft, the air traffic has become a serious issue.

As there has been a hike in fuel charges, the airlines have increased their fares tremendously.

EG . As the drop of passengers flow was as high as 35% in jodhpur and 25% in Jammu.

As due to all such disadvantages and the main being the fuel rise, new technology are coming up

E.G As that of the airship shown in an recent article by the French architect jean Marie.

The industry uses a lot of resources to do its thing . Fuel, rubber, metals etc. the biggest problem for the industry is that it id getting too expensive for many airlines to afford newer aircraft and do maintenance on them.

Parts prices are going through the roof .

Page 19: Niikks

As a crew member some likely disadvantages to be faced are the long duty hours , odd hours duty, continuous traveling for days together , have to your cool in many untoward situations also.

All big airlines have to merge with other airlines to make profit due to the soaring prices.

Due to which the air tickets will not be affordable to the common man and it would be only for high class society people.

No new aircrafts will be purchased . As a result , US & European manufacturers will also suffer.

Page 20: Niikks

In a sharp contrast 70%of the airlines tens of millions of passengers use only 30 big hub airports which results in many long delays or holding of an aircraft.

And this is because the airlines use an inefficient hub and spoke route system , forcing passengers to use airports located in cities they don’t want to go to.

As a result most airline trips require a long layover while you are forced to change airplanes at one of their hubs.

Page 21: Niikks

IT is always said that “ nothing is perfect, there is always a room for improvement” and so was in the aviation industry.

There are advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantages has helped the aviation industry to

grow in its field. But with the help of the disadvantages , it can get better and better. Such as they overtook the disadvantage of air pollution and wastage of fuel by introducing fuel efficient aircraft A380. and so the aviation industry will get better and better but it wont go down.

TECHNOLOGICAL COMPARISION BETWEEN A300 AND A380’P3a & P4 ( unit 10 )

On entry into service in 1974 , the a300 was very advanced and influenced later subsonic airline designs. The technological highlights include:

Advanced wings Supercritical aerofoil section for economical

performance. first airliner to be fitted with wind shear protection

glass. Advanced autopilots capable of flying the aircraft

from landing. Electrically controlled braking system. Glass cockpit flight instruments.

Page 23: Niikks

The first airliner to use wingtip fences for better aerodynamics.

Airbus pioneered the use of advanced composite materials incorporating them in secondary structures such as tailfin leading edges.

In cockpit technology of the a300/ a310 family, the a310 featured the first cockpit ever certificated for a two member flight crew on a large airliner .

Electrically signaling was also been used initially on the a310 for secondary flight control systems .

Page 24: Niikks

A380 The new airbus is sold in two models. The A380-800

was originally designed to carry 555 passengers in three class configuration or passengers (538 on the main deck and 315 on the upper deck) in a single class economy configuration.

The 380’s wing sized for maximum take off weight over 650 tones in order to accommodate the future versions.

This common design approach sacrifices some fuel efficiency on the A380-800 passenger model, but airbus estimates that the size of the aircraft, coupled with the advances in technology described below, will provide lower operating costs per passenger than all current variants of Boeing 747.

Page 25: Niikks
Page 26: Niikks

The 380 also features the wingtip fences similar to those found on the a310 and a320 to alleviate the effects of wake turbulence , increasing fuel efficiency and performance.

The a380 features an improved glass cockpit , and fly by wire flight controls linked to side sticks

The improved cockpit displays feature eight 15 by 20 cm liquid crystals display all of which are physically identical interchangeable.

These comprise two primary flight display, two navigation displays engine , and provide an easy-to-use interface to the flight management system replacing three multifunction control and display units.

The A380 also possess some luxury area as the gymnasiums, bar, beauty salon, relaxation area etc for more passenger comfort.

Page 27: Niikks

The A380 is also termed as the “ super jumbo” of aviation industry.

The A380 provides more than 80% of the floor place than A300.

The a380 is the first aircraft to evacuate 853 passenger in 80 seconds during an emergency test.

Page 29: Niikks

As of now I just got to know about the vast aviation industry. That they are more opportunities in this industry than in any other industry. To be a part of this industry it is very important to about this industry and this research has helped me for the same.

As I was doing the research on the above mentioned topics, I came to various features of this which is hardly known to the common people as well as the advantages and disadvantages of this industry. As before I never knew this industry is so large, but as of now I almost know everything about this industry so it helped me a lot by clearing my doubts about this industry. According to me , in coming few years I will be a part of this industry as a cabin crew in a very renowned airlines.

FUTURE OF DOMESTIC AVIATION SECTOR.

India is one of the fastest growing aviation market in the world. The current growth rate in domestic and international travel exceeds 25% the highest in the world. The Indian aviation industry has witnessed a remarkable growth in recent years with key drivers being positive economic factors , growth in consumer spending and availability of low fares.

It is estimated that by 2010 , Indian airports will be handling between 90 and 100 million passengers per year , as against the current 34 million passengers. It is also expected that nearly 80%of this growth will be driven by the low cost carrier segment [ LCC]..

Page 31: Niikks

The increase in percentage growth rate of domestic sector is far more than that of the international sector.. The other factors which will boost up the domestic sector in next few years are as follows :

LCC : due to the emergence of the low cost airlines every common man can afford to travel which was a rare scenario in earlier days.

Attraction to foreign shores : jet and Sahara have gone international by starting operations. After five years of domestic operations many domestic airlines too will be entitled to fly overseas . Rising income

levels: though India’s GDP is very low as compared to the developed country standards , but as India’s economy is growing even now the common man can afford to fly by air .Glamour of the airlines. no other industry other than film making industry is as glamorous as the airlines . Airline tycoons have been idolized. Airlines have a aura of glamour around them, and high net worth individuals can always have an idea of owing an airline, due to all the above factors have resulted in a “me too” rush to launch domestic airlines in India.

Apart from this there are many reasons for shutting down of this industry such as hike in fuel rise, low maintenance etc but due to the above mentioned factors it will never go down.
