How It Started

The idea for a spelling competition began with a Peace Corps Volunteer in education

Why? Hard to motivate students to learn English

Certificates and competitions are good motivators

Competition doors are open to all students in Georgia

… Thus was born the idea for a National English

Spelling Competition.

The first stage is composed of written exams, similar to

the local-round competition.

Written tests will be graded after the completion of the first

stage, and the top 15% of students from each age group

will advance to the second stage.

The second stage is done verbally. The students take
