2. Chinese Culture Social Studies 4th grade Lesson Time line-
5/45 minute class periods.
3. Standards: Subject Area - 1: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and
Listening Standard Area - 1.2: Reading, Analyzing, and Interpreting
Text Grade Level - 1.2.4: GRADE 4 R4.B.3.3.1: Identify, explain,
and/or interpret text organization, including sequence,
question/answer, comparison/contrast, cause/effect, or
problem/solution. Materials & Resources Assessments R4.B.3.3.2:
Use headings to locate information in a passage, or identify
content that would best fit in a specific section of text.
4. Essential / Driving Questions: What are some of the various
traditions that are in celebrated or followed in China? What are
some of the similarities and differences of your own culture and
those of China?
5. Introduction: In this lesson students will read/listen to an
article regarding Chinese Culture in a whole group setting.

students will then be placed in trio groups to work on compiling
information regarding the similarities and differences of Chinese
culture and their own. At the completion of this lesson students
will put together a Prezi presentation that will be viewed on the
Smart board by the entire class. Students will use either laptops
or iPads to complete this assignment.
6. Present New Content: The students will be asked to record in
their journals any cultural traditions or ideas that they believe
exist in China. Teacher will also record the ideas and suggestions
on a file that will be saved on the smart board. Teacher will
present students with article to listen to as a whole group through
the internet and then will be supplied with the web address to then
view the article in their groups.
7. Independent Learning Experience: Activities In groups,
students will use the internet to investigate the Chinese culture.
Students will use web search engines. Students will develop a
virtual Venn diagram on www.readwritethink.com and the students
will then print them after developing. Students will develop a
Prezi presentation that will then be presented to the whole group
at the close of the assignment. Students will record the websites
they investigated and their findings in their journals.
8. Feedback: Teacher will circulate the classroom as students
are working in groups providing feedback. Assessment: The journal
of the sites visited and information found will be reviewed and
scored using a short rubric. The final presentation will be scored
formally using a rubric that will be distributed to the students
prior to their work beginning on the project.
9. Management of Technology: Students will return either iPads
or PCs to cart. Each mobile device will be placed in the correct
slot with the number on the slot correlating with the number on the
device. The cart will then be closed and locked daily by the
classroom teacher. The cart will be plugged in daily so that all
devices may be fully charged for their next session.
