Chapter 1

Sam comes back home from Yale. He told dad about the victory of the American army in the battle with the British.

However, his dad feels not so happy about it; his father respects and likes his mother country, England but Sam does not.

They also fight over whether or not Sam’s taking the gun or not to the battlefield.

Chapter 2Sam ran away from his dad with the gun.

Tim and his dad goes to the church and he founds out where Sam is from Tom.

Tim hears all the stories from Sam about the war and the reason why they want to be free.

Chapter 3Tim worried about what kind of freedom will come to the Americans if the America won the war with England.

Meanwhile, he promised Betsy that he will not tell anyone including his dad about Sam.

Also in the last part of the chapter, Sam returns.

Chapter 4

Sam comes back to Redding.

His dad and mom is getting threatened by the Continentals, who wants all the Tories’ guns.

Tim goes to Sam for the gun but Sam gets it back from him. Suddenly, dad sees Sam and tries to catch him but he fails.

Chapter 5Tim is very jealous at Sam because he want to get attention from people like him.

One day Mr. Heron talked about Tim helping him carrying the business letters.

However, Tim’s dad rejected strongly.

Chapter 6Tim lied to his dad that he will be fishing all day with his friend

He actually went to Mr. Heron for the delivery job.

When he was on the task, he met Betsy and accidentally opened the letter; it said, “if this letter is delivered, he is reliable”.

Chapter 7

After Tim’s failure of the delivery, he tried to avoid Mr. Heron. Father and mother fought over to answer or not to Sam’s letter.

Father took Tim to the Verplancks Point, where father usually took Sam. He went there to sell his products and to buy stuff needed for the next year works.

During the voyage, they met these cowboys who tried to kidnap them. They escaped from them.

Chapter 8Tim and Mr. Meeker went to their cousin’s house in the country side.

Their cousins had a lot of family members. Seven girls had to sleep in two beds and the boys had to sleep in the barn.

After some relaxing time, Tim and his dad packed up to go back home. When they were going back home, it stared to snow a lot. Thereupon, they had to go back to their cousin’s house again.

Chapter 9

The snow stopped, so Tim and his father started to go back home again.

On the way back Father went way ahead Tim for the safety reasons.

Father got lost.

Chapter 10

Life without father got harder.

British troops came to redding, but all the people who are tory are scared of them.

British troops killed the black servant.

Chapter 11

British troops broke one militia’s ribs.

The army that Sam is in is coming to Redding.

Tim and his mother met Sam and they gave him food.

Chapter 12

Sam’s father died by diseases from the prison ship.

The army that Sam joined came back the Redding region for the winter encampment.

Sam was caught by the fellow soldier, but he is innocent.

Tim tries prove that Sam is innocent.

Mom went to the encampment to talk to General Putnam.

They are all nervous.

Tim went to see Sam.

Mother is not working; she is depressed.

Sam is dead.
