1) Introduction School education is dependent on textbooks. There are some parameters to know the standard of education is strongly based on textbooks. Surprisingly to say that in our Pakistani society children spend their most of time in reading textbooks therefore they are deprived of creating new reforms. Further to say that textbooks are like platform where both teacher and students meet their possibilities what to teach or what to learn. The teaching requires an effective materials. Learners gets easy to catch things. Same way for teaching language, good material is important. Material development refers to all the processes made use of by practitioners who produce and/ or use material for language learning including material evaluation, their adaptation, design, production, exploitation and research. Ideally, all of these processes should interact in the making of language-learning. Good language teaching material should achieve impact on learners, help learner

develop confidence, provide relevant and useful content, expose learners

authentic use of language, provide opportunities for authentic language use, take

into account individual differences, encourage learner’s involvement.

After critically analyzing the material used in English

textbook I got following findings as outdated editions, less pedagogical practices,

non-visual vocabulary teaching, focusing on beliefs and faith rather than

knowledge, repetition of same events in different textbooks, narrow teaching

approaches and Material used as full of dogmatize, bias and demarcation against

fellow citizen. The findings also clearly show that Sindh textbooks as compare to

others don’t fulfil requirements of teaching English as second language at

secondary level but believe in grading.

Therefore I have modifiy the lesson three “Profession” from the tenth class published by Sindh textbooks board, where the Material evaluation is not remarkable for the learner to acquire and need based analysis because the purpose of such lesson is to teach language rather than information or history that’s whay it is very indespensible ot evaluate this lesson. According to my material adaptation I have delete some pragraphs, and exercises and modified the aunthentic material to be used which replace the actual text.

2) Original text

3) Original exercise

Adaptation and modifying the lesson.

Deletion: It is said that God writes His law on the hearts of men, and a teacher is one who can read what He writes on the human heart this message is a reflection God’s word found in scared writing as well as enshrined in the work of creation all of which come from the divine command.

Reason: This above text is highly literary and broader term. It is quite difficult even for fist year students in university and how students from 10th class can will get it.

Adding: Ghulam Ali Bhurirro is professor at department of English department in university of Sindh jamshoro. He works four days a week, both in morning and evening classes. He speaks many languages but English is native pronunciation.

4) Procedure of adaptation and use of techniques Comprehension

DELETION

Change the following into active voice.

1. This lamp was lit by the servant.

2. The soldier was ordered by the officer to report to him.

3. By whom was this blanket patched?

4. Was this land cultivated by the landowner himself?

REASONS

It is not according to the need of learners. In 10th level they can’t do active passive voice because it is

difficult at that level.

Teaching:

Fishing:

5) Evaluation. The good Good language teaching material, neglect

indoctrination and inspire towards education. And if it is material of

English teaching, it must focus on following areas: 1) lessons may

stimulates interest of students in the subject of English. 2) In

composition, exercises represents technical usages rather predicating

ways. 3) It may contains very simple words that students can

comprehend the passage as knowing process of reading comprehension.

4) The content should be as beautifully written as students could write

good paragraph including unity, order and variety. 5) Exercises must be

audio-visual aids that students could improve their language rather than

just marking the answer.

Conclusion

Thus, it is proved with Material evaluation that Sindh textbooks do not fulfill the requirements of secondary level students who need to learn English as a Second language, not as a subject.

Without good material learners will be less confidence, lack of interest, improper knowledge of communicative language skills. There is no space left for creativity of students but limited with certain exercises from textbooks. Age of 10th class students are young therefore pictorial as well interesting lessons should be added to enhance their skill of writing as well as reading with the help of visual vocabulary.
