Harry Potter

Budget: $150 million for Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix. ($1, 155, 000, 000 for all 8 films)

Money made: The company actually lost money from producing the film. (It lost $167 million) but was still a success.

Production: Warner bros. Harry Potter uses the well known productions of Warner Bros to produce their films as they are a large budget film so uses a large brand. The film made 55 million sales.

Genre and audience: Fantasy, an audience of previous Harry Potter films around the ages of 12 and above.

Paranormal activity

Budget: $15,000

Money made: $193 million

Production: Paramount pictures. Paranormal activity uses a less well known but still a popular production brand for their film.

Genre and audience: Horror, an audience of ages 15 and above who enjoy watching horrors and thrillers.

Similarities between the two films…

- Both films have a similar age group who would watch the film therefore have similar audiences. Audiences may also be similar because of the genres. Warner Bros Harry Potter use fantasy and paramount use horror which both attract the younger generation where as films such as historical and rom-coms may attract older generations.

- Both films use popular production and institutions when produced.

- Both films are well known and are quite popular to buy.

Differences…

- An obvious difference would be budget, Harry Potter uses a very high budget where as Paranormal activity uses a much less budget total when they produced their films.

- They use some similar genres in their films however most are different, Warner Bros use action and adventure a lot where as paramount pictures use drama, family and romance a lot.

- Another difference would be the money made at the end of the production, Paranormal activity made an extraordinary profit where as Harry Potter made a loss.

Warner Bros

Warner Bros production includes a lot of action and fantasy films such as; Dark Knight, Inception, Superman, Batman and Charlie and The Chocolate factory.

Paramount pictures

Paramount pictures also uses a lot of the same genre, mostly drama and adventure such as; Forrest Gump, Star Trek, Ghost, Titanic and Charlottes Web.

What film was more successful?

Looking at the research from the two budgets, it is seen that both films were a success in being popular as Paranormal activity made a profit of $193 million and even though Harry Potter made a loss, the film still had 55 million sales.

Paranormal made a personal achievement of a very large profit which shows their film production was very positive

Harry Potter used its popularity from previous films to sell a large amount of films which show this film was also a great accomplishment. They spent a huge amount of money producing the film however did not quite make up this money with sales afterwards.

Overall, both films were a success as they used popular and large production brands to use for their films.
