Register with the library

• Fill in a registration form and submit to library staff. Forms can be downloaded and completed before visiting the library.

• You will be given an ID and PIN. Use these on – The self-issue system (to borrow, renew ..)– www.elms.nhs.uk (to check account or renew)

Be familiar with Library rules

• 6 books can be borrowed for a period of 4 weeks. Loans can be renewed once, but items can be recalled at any time.

• The Library rules are to ensure fair and effective access for all. They are displayed in the library.

Place the books on the wooden surface and remove them after the system processes them.

You can print a receipt to confirm the transaction and for the due date.

Returning booksTo return books no login is necessary but process each book individually, and place in black slot.A green dropbox is also located in the main atrium beside the ATM.

Laxton Library is staffed

•9am-5pm Monday-Thursday•9am-4pm Friday

24 hour access can be requested at the library service desk.

Searching & accessing online information

Register (at an NHS computer) for an Athens account at:http://tinyurl.com/athensreg

Set up your password using the email sent to you.

You can then access e-journals, e-books and databases.

1. Go to www.evidence.nhs.uk & click Journals and Databases

2. Log in with your Athens ID and password3. Start using the databases etc. Training is available to

help you locate and access information. Training guides can be downloaded.

Interlibrary loans & document delivery

For books or articles which are not available locally or online, library staff can request them from other libraries on your behalf. There is a limit of 3 per week per member.Please avail of this service sensibly, as though it is free to library members, it incurs costs. You should be able to check whether items are available using the library catalogue or your athens password.

Facilities• 16 study carrels with 16 PCs.• Software available includes Microsoft Office, SPSS,

SmartDraw, and Medical Masterclass.• A Black and white printer is free to use, but you must

bring your own paper. The library sells 30 A4 pages for £1. Make sure to connect to the correct printer.

• A colour scanner is available.• A photocopier also scans and sends documents to an

email address. For copies of student notes and material from the library we will supply a card. For other or personal purposes we sell photocopy cards.

• Study spaces.• A bookable group discussion room.
