WHAT IS LANGUAGE?
• The speech that we use to communicate our views and ideas from one person to other is called language.
STAGES OF LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
• The language development of a child begins right from the birth cry.
• It is further developed by the family at home and later by the teacher at school.
• It is essential that the child should learn to express effectively and efficiently.
ROLE OF TEACHER• The teacher plays a very important
role in this process, as she is the person responsible for laying the foundation of various other languages.
• To teach a new language the teacher must make use of the mother tongue.
• The teacher should adopt methods that go on from known to unknown, easy to hard and general to specific and so on.
• This helps the child to learn the basic concepts in an easy way.
HEREDITY & ENVIRONMENT• Heredity and
environment are the factors that cause individual differences in language.
• The hereditary factors of an individual come from his genes.
• The environmental factors encompass the physical surroundings, traditions, code of ethics, contact with other people etc.
FACTORS INFLUENCING LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
• The parents, teachers, community and society also play a very important role in the language development of an individual.
• Age, gender, intelligence, achievement and socio-economic factors lead to individual differences.
METHODS USED BY TEACHER FOR LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
