SIZE

UP TO 30 STUDENTS PER GRADE

15:1 STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO

GRADES 8,9,&10 WOULD BE IN SCHOOL DURING THE FIRST YEAR THE DOORS OPEN (2011-2012).

ADD ONE GRADE PER YEAR

BY 2013-2014 Kornerstone WOULD BE OPERATING AT FULL CAPACITY.

Thursday, October 22, 2009

ADDING 1 GRADE PER YEAR INCREASES SUSTAINABILITY BECAUSE STAFF AND GOVERNANCE CAN BE ADDED AS THE SCHOOL INCREASES -COMMON PRACTICE IN SEVERAL NEW CHARTER SCHOOLS. -The small school size will allow students access to emerging technologies, immerse in an expertise area, and accelerate or decelerate credit accumulation.

Students enrolling in Kornerstone will strive for excellence in learning and attainment. *National Charter motto is “Autonomy for accountability” - Kornerstone will strive for “Excellence in autonomy and accountability. *”I believe that by the time the school is fully enrolled, the student body will look like any other school in any other community. We’ll have students with all different abilities. %12-%15 of the students will be students with disabilities- who will be collaborating with high achieving students in a truly inclusive learning environment.”

Each of the instructional models listed above will need to be examined and require extensive training for staff and personnel.

Essential Goals

All students in Kornerstone Charter School will achieve mastery in all five employability areas: Work Ethic, Good Communication, Collaboration, Social Responsibility, and Problem Solving & Critical Thinking

5 MOST IMPORTANT EMPLOYMENT AREAS FOR EMPLOYER HIRING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

12Thursday, October 22, 2009

Work Readiness Report Card,Dr. Brown - Cornell UniversityTHESE ARE THE 5 MOST IMPORTANT EMPLOYMENT AREAS FOR EMPLOYERS HIRING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES.

Kornerstone Charter School will provide extensive vocational, social, emotional, and academic experiences; thereby, empowering students to meet their greatest individual needs while becoming productive citizens, family members, and employees. Kornerstone Charter School will be located in the Kimberly Area School District. Kornerstone students who wish to return to other schools within the Kimberly Area School District will be allowed to transition back to the school of their choice at least four times per year.

Page 13: Kornerstone Charter School (Board Presentation)

Goals Continued Each student will develop an expertise area (Major)

All students will work in internship for at least 1 semester in fifth year

All students will lead at least 3 seminars for the Kimberly community

Each student will have community mentor & Kornerstone staff member for their expertise area

13Thursday, October 22, 2009

Seminars Students will share their expertise area with the community of Kimberly. This “celebration of learning” will benefit the citizens and younger students. Example, if a student is a programmer or graphic artist - that student would hold seminars in which community members would come into the school and learn from the student. The student becomes the teacher.

Community Mentor One idea which is crucial to the long term success and sustainability for the charter school *Students are linked up with community member in their expertise area. *community members would undergo proper background check and training *Students would gain realworld experience with their mentor *Develop mentor relationship beginning in year 3. (opportunity to switch mentors if student goes to new expertise area)

Page 14: Kornerstone Charter School (Board Presentation)

GOALS CONTINUEDALL students will have access to emerging technologies and will have the opportunity to develop technology literacy talents
