E-‐learning is the process through which we gain knowledge using a variety of Internet
and computer resources.
E-‐learning has come a long way since its slow, cumbersome beginnings. Today it is fast,
efficient, and convenient.
Online learning is important because it allows users to maintain certifications and constantly
develop and improve their techniques.
Benefits to the instructor of E-‐learning include convenience, the ability to work on one’s own
schedule, and cost efficiency.
Benefits to the student of E-‐learning include the ability to study on ones own time, convenience of
being able to learn from home, and constant updating of skills.
Online continuing education courses take time and money to establish, but practitioners see excellent returns.
The creative process of designing E-‐learning products is driven by the need for portability, ease of use and maintenance, affordability, and a history of high
probability of success with long-‐term cost-‐effectiveness.
Deciding what topics to cover in class should take into account what would lend itself to an online environment, financial viability, student interest,
and a history of success.
Remember the role of the National Certification Board (NCB) in approving,
listing, and promoting courses.
Development of courses is aided by keeping all course materials in a course notebook. Have courses tested and edited to ensure functionality, usability,
and copyright.
Select an online program that is affordable, reliable, and easy to use. Make sure it supports desired
materials, such as Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.
Make sure your website is compatible with your online testing program.
Keep the student in mind when designing courses. Make sure it is easily navigable, instructions are
clear and detailed, and user friendly.
Marketing is essential to the success of your course. Use multiple marketing outlets.
